Hi all

Wondering if any one could provide info on  good breeders of Timneh Greys in
& around Hertfordshire.
My wife and me are wanting to introduce a Timneh into our family, we've
bought a few books and we think the Timneh would suit us best and hopefully
vice versa.

The problem were having is finding Timneh breeders, e-mails are going out
but with no success.  This process is made all the more frustrating since
all the literature says to look for good breeders, to ensure that you know
where your new bird comes from and its history.

We're hoping to take home a Timneh in April due to commitments up until
then, however we are wanting to do this right and so we're trying to do the
ground work now, including research.

Any way thanks for any attention & suggestions.

There is little point in contacting breeders now if you don't want a bird
for 6 months. I have timnehs buut I cannot say whether they will breed or
not. Not much breeding goes on in winter anyway as most birds breed during
the spring and summer.

I can recommend a breeder in Norfolk . I have recommended people from all
over the country to the people who are brilliant and very caring. They
advertise in the bird magazines etc. They are called 'riverside aviaries'.
You could give them a ring as they may know someone or know where there is
someone with eggs in the nest.

Thanks for the info, have found the website and will contact as you say
nearer the time.
However, does anyone else know of other breeders?

All help appreciated

Karl,

We bought our African Grey from Glyn Griffith at "Just Greys"
(www.justgreys.com) 18 months ago. We found Glyn a very knowledgable
and professional breader. I can highly recommend him.

Regards,

Georg

I assume you mean that he is a breeder.Unless he also makes bread? :0)
Nice looking site.  Some of the advice given seems rather ambiguous , in
particular the question about whether a grey can be left alone all day long.
He seems to imply that this is fine as long as you leave a radio on. I know
very concientious breeders who would simply refuse to sell a bird to someone
who was going to leave it alone for 9 or more hours a day with simply a
radio on. But they care more about their birds than putting off a potential
customer.
And judging by the rest of the advice, I would say that some of it is very
misleading indeed and some of it, I consider bad adviced. It seems designed
more so as not to put someone off buying one of their birds. That alone
would make me wary of buying from them.

Thanks George for the web address - the site looks pretty informative!
May try calling them nearer the time.  How long did you have to wait for
your Grey to come home, just out of interest?

My timnehs are working the nest box now. I might have some babies and I'm
only in Cambridgeshire :0)

Hi again

A few months ago I came on the groups asking about Timneh breeders.
Well the deed is done, my wife and me are looking forward to picking
up our new family member this weekend!
Over the last month or so we've been reading up, plus obtaining everything
that we think we will need, from the obligatory cage to toys (& grey
towels).

Definately looking forward to the weekend.
Just thought I'd let you guys know since a lot of people replied last time I
came on here.
Thanks again and will probably try posting some piccies in the near future.
