I wondered about that myself until a month ago when I started buying
ionizers. Two from Radio Shack and then one from Sharper Image. I've used
both in the parrot room, currently using the larger Sharper Image unit now.
It 'does' put out a little Ozone , which is the sweet smell (I call it
sweet, I like it). I still have the large hepa filters in there to suck in
the down and feathers,etc.. although they are so noisy in comparison.
Anyway, these have been with the birds for over a month and no problems.
