Try the next morning!! My finches mate several times a day, and the next
morning there is an egg in the nest. Since you posted your message 3/20/05,
then this morning of 3/22/05 you may already have 2 eggs in the nest! That
is if they are just getting started!!!  If you have not been checking the
nest, and you have had them a while you may have a nest full of eggs!!  I
don't know how much you know about finches? ??  But if you don't want a
house full, you will want to check the nest WEEKLY and remove the eggs. It
only takes 11-15 days for the eggs to hatch, right around 15 days old the
chicks will fledge, and 5-7 more days at 20 -22 days old they are eating on
their own. But still begging from dad!!  By this time mom and daddy finch
are starting the next clutch!! By the time the first batch of chicks are 1
month old, mom and dad finch have hatchlings in the nest, and start chasing
the older chicks away from the nest! Because the older chicks want to go
back in the nest in the evening to sleep. Then you have to put in another
nest for the older chicks to sleep in.  And if the older chicks are male and
female, in about  2 - 3 months they will start having chicks of their own!!
So on and so on, the next thing you know you have a house full of finches!!!
