When i cover her up she is no longer quiet and calm, she chirps softly,
climbs around and fits through tight spaces over and over again, and
looks skinny and scared, i dunno whats wrong so i can't help her. She
sleeps more during the day because somtimes at night i even hear her
flapping around, is this normal for a budgie about 8-10 months old to
start changing like this, is it because spring has come? or is my
budgie sick?

There are two things that caused our budgie to have the night frights - we
had a wild mouse that would climb up into her cage for a feed, and later in
the spring there were house moths, tiny little moths that I guess would fly
blindly against her and which she hadn't encountered before.

Traps catch the mice, but every so often another appears, and I think she's
become used to the moths.

Mel,
Has this ALWAYS been the case, or just recently?  If recent, did you
move the cage or change anything in her immediate surroundings?  Did you
change the cage cover?  Can she see a reflection somewhere from a lamp
or fishtank or something in the room?  Is there a "scary" new piece of
furniture, or balloon, or something recently placed in her environment?

this has never happened before, she is getting a little better about
being covered up but she still takes a longer time to settle down. we
don't have mice or bugs (as far as i know) and her cage is always
covered on three sides and the open side is in a corner so she can only
see wall. the only other thing thats been different about her behavior
is that she no longer enjoys being away from her cage as much and is
scared of any new piece of clothing you wear around her to the point
where she won't go near you, so i don't know if this change is normal
because this is her first spring that shes seen or what

i'm just guessing here, but maybe try leaving a radio on with some really soft
soothing music?

Mel, my budgie freaks out with hats -- and he's 11 years old and has
seen everybody wear one at one time or another, but still hats cause a
ruckus!

Does she come out on her own and play on top of the cage?  If so, she
may just be getting territorial and/or hormonal during this spring
mating season.  All this hullabaloo will blow over in a few weeks...

Is the room really dark?  Too dark?  Is there a hall light or night
light nearby?  If not, try a small light.

Keep us posted...

She comes out on her own all the time to push things off of her cage,
but during the night it isn't too dark you can see a little light
coming in from the street light, but anyway she has been calming down a
lot better latley, she just switches around sleeping in 3 different
spots everynight and now seems well rested during the day! there is
only one problem now, she is really scared of belts, she is horrified
of striped belts, and some striped shirts, is this an instinct or is
she just scared?

Mel,
I think you have a really sensitive bird - almost anything new is going
to be scary.  Eventually she will trust you and hopefully calm down
enough to learn some new things are interesting -- although  her
personality just might mean that any changes will start her crazies all
over again.

Change her cage around every so often and offer new toys/treats.  Have
you offered spray millet yet?
