That is cute, and I love that people are paying for it so the shop lets him
keep doing it. I toss old bread out to the birds here, and now and then a
couple of them will show up. Macaw goes on full alert when they land in
"his" yard. <G>

Guard bird.  LOL

I wonder how many bags the gull snags each day.  I also wonder if his
technique will eventually be copied by others.  They are so competitive and
obviously smart.

People don't give some bird species much credit for intelligence.  I've had
wild turkeys, chickens, ducks and peacocks over the years.  The peas are not
too bright, the ducks are the smartest and the chickens and turkeys are a
whole lot smarter than you would imagine.  As with any animal, I think they
were nurtured to the extent that their intelligence was more obvious than it
would have been if they had been in a commercial setting.  It's more than
just instinct-smart.  They all (except peas) demonstrated pretty good
problem solving skills.  In defense of peas, the hens are the best bird
mothers I've ever encountered.

Sincerely,
Joanne

I guess because it's the only bird he see's in the yard that are bigger than
he is other than the 2 Ducks that come every year. For some reason he never
seems to care about them. The Gulls sure get him going though.

Yes if others keep seeing it they may try to copy him, hope it does not get
out of hand.

Turkeys get made a lot of jokes about because of the domestic live stock
ones. They have been inbred so much for so long that they are un able to
care for themselves. Wild ones are a VERY smart bird as anyone who has ever
hunted them can attest to.

That is funny. I wait with bated breath for someone to complain about the
stress of shoplifting and the ingestion of transfats potentially causing the
early demise of the gull.

<VBG> I had not even thought of that. They will probably sue the store for
allowing the birds to eat such an unhealthy diet.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer.
Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does
not go nearly as well with pizza. --Dave Barry
