A heat lamp might be a better choice because the bird can move either
closer, or further away, to achieve its optimal comfort level.

Next time, try a breeder. And make sure all the contingencies are
mutually understood before purchase.

No breeders closer than 100 miles either, I live in the middle of
nowhere.
I don't have a heat lamp but I do have the heat cranked in this room. It
has to be 90 or more in here, but that's what the vet said to keep
it...and my puter is in here too...whew...is it hot!
Budgies still has a little diahrea and is eating a little food.(ate like
a little pig last night) He has millet, seed and pellets...I change his
food and water every 2 or 3 hours so that it it always fresh. Man! I
hope he makes it... ;(
If the vet thinks the bird is sick (which it sounds like it is), then he
*absolutely* should of given you an antibiotic (ciprofloxin ). 1 drop
(.05cc) every 12 hours for two weeks. You should call him and say you want
this right away because it's very, very doubtful the bird will get better on
its own without antibiotics. Heat just isn't enough. I don't know why so
many vets are so damn ignorant about birds and the care they need. Don't let
him talk you out of the antibiotics.
My budgie is going on 10 years now, and he would of died long ago if all I
ever used was heat to help him through an illness.
Good luck,
Dave

Avian medicine is a specialty.

David,
I believe that the author had stated that the vet was NOT an avian vet. As
such he/she would NOT know exactly what a parrot/bird would need in order to
help it to get better. Avian medicine is just as much of a specialty as is an
oncologist is for us humans.
