Fortunately I don't have to write the obituary of "Botheparrot" of
youtube fame.

An old friend came to visit, brought his two dogs. He traveled a long
way and was on his way to visit his family another 500 miles away.

Don't remember the breed, but they are bird dogs, bred to go get the
bird and bring it back to it's owner.  100 pounds of muscle, x 2.

Sweet dogs, and a great owner, but still, we are dealing with dogs bred
for a specific talent.

We were inside looking at photos, the bird was out of his cage as usual,
the dogs outside.  A neighbor came over, I opened the door and we were
standing by it doing the introductions.  One of the dogs came in behind
us unnoticed.

The dog had "Bo" in his mouth for about 1/2 second.  The bird only
suffered broken tail feathers.  He was locked safely in his cage for the
rest of the visit.

It only takes one small lapse of attention.  I will now lock him in his
cage whenever we have visitors.

I am sure glad things turned out well, Jim. Fortunately, a well-trained bird
dog is taught to 'soft-mouth' the bird being retrieved, rather than chewing
down on it.

Poor Bo.

That is what saved him, I'm sure.

I don't think the dog would have given me the bird, but fortunately the
owner was right there and the dog released him.

He said, "This could have turned out badly" as we both had a reality check.

I probably could have included a link to his videos:
