I've noticed that Jester the bare-eyed cockatoo likes raspberries
(he cracks the little seeds with his beak) so I thought I'd try
something a bit more exotic.

Yesterday I bought him a pomegranate. It's been a big hit. He
enjoys picking the grains out of the fruit, and he really seems
to like the taste.

In the past I've given him lemon wedges (he likes them better
than oranges) and mango (he peeled the pit and ate the nut out of
the centre).

I was wondering what other kinds of treats folks here have tried
with their birds.

Great topic!  I've almost posted on this a couple of times myself.  Kenya
the CAG *loves* pomegranates, although I must confess I don't much care for
the mess she makes with them.  Bogey the Amazon doesn't seem to like them as
much.  What they both adore:  Beet "stems"; the part in between the leaves
and the beet.  And rose hips, they both love the seeds inside.  The hips
have to be pretty mature, a yellow or orange color, to have good seeds.

Between the poms and the beet stems, the birds sometimes look as if they've
just murdered something - and talk about blood-red poop!

I got Jester some crabapples last week, but he doesn't seem to
like them much. He's more likely to eat them if I chop them up
first.

We bought some purple basil a couple weeks ago, and to my
surprise, he gobbled it right down.

I'll have to try the beet stems. And the rose hips, what a great
idea!

So, I'd say these wouldn't be good choices for an Umbrella 'Too?

Our Glacie doesn't care much for fresh anything.  She'll eat a little banana
and she halfway likes tangerines and peeled grapes.

More good news on the car sickness front.

We rigged her carrier in the seat, sitting on a couple of bags, so she could
see out as they drove.  No car sickness.  Looks like we might have solved
the problem.  Thanks to all of you for the kind suggestions.

Mine have pomegranates on a regular basis when they are in season. They
also like baby corns, lychees, fresh figs, mange touts.

He likes the mange touts also (snow peas for the North American
crowd). He rips the pods open and eats the peas.

In fact I bought some when I bought groceries yesterday. He\ll
eat his snow peas, and we'll stir fry the rest.

Mine loves mange tout also, but the favorite has to be sugar snap peas
(still in the pods), we have to be very quiet opening the fridge door, if
she hears it creak open she goes nuts thinking she's going to get peas.
Also a big hit is cucumber and carrot diced and mixed together and she
loves corn on the cob and baby corn. We tried pomegranite a couple of times
and it went down well but very messy, it looked like the pomegranite had
exploded in the bottom of the cage.

The most poplular fresh treats around here (lately) are seedless red grapes
and kale. I've not tried giving them pomegranates.

Raw cranberries.
The little floret of seeds inside a green or red pepper.
Apples.
Grapefruit juice in the water dish or in a shot glass.
Blackberries
Cookies (so they're not a fruit, so what?)

><(((*> Raw cranberries.

Now that's a great idea.

><(((*> The little floret of seeds inside a green or red pepper.

He *****loves***** this. Picks all the seeds off and eats them.
Leaves the pulp.

><(((*> Apples.
><(((*> Grapefruit juice in the water dish or in a shot glass.

I bought some fresh apple juice last week. Let Jester taste it. I
thought he'd drown himself in the glass, he drank and drank and
drank it.

><(((*> Blackberries
><(((*> Cookies (so they're not a fruit, so what?)

Jesse also adores eating pasta (cooked, of course). bits of
toast, crackers (as in "Polly wants a ..."), and bagels. He
prefers it if there are seeds that he can pick off.

Never met a bird yet that does not adore (cooked) pasta... ;-)
