Can Budgies catch your cold?

I'm sure this has been posted before.  My wife is getting broncitis. I
told her that I think she should stay away from the bird for a while.
Is this necessary?

  We've been told that by our experienced avian vet, so I agree --
whenever one (or both) of us has a cold (or possibly influenza --
anything contagious by air), we are careful not to expose our five
birds to the disease!
