Ducks are traditionally shown bright yellow in drawings.

Are there any bright yellow ducks in real life?  How did this
convention get started?

Donald and Daffy would disagree!

Probably from those domesticated "farm" ducks.  What are they called?
Pecans?  Picans?

Yes! Baby pekin ducks have yellow down.  They grow white feathers
though.  No doubt that's the inspiration for the pictures and the
classic rubber ducky bath toys.

See:

two pictures of babies at the bottom of the page.
They're certainly cuter than most baby birds!

Speaking of Rubber Ducky, do you know (off the top of your head) who wrote
and sang the hit novelty song of many decades ago?

Not off the top of my head, but google search found it on the Quncy
Jones "Dollar" LP recorded in 1972.  He wasn't the original artist.   I
believe that honor goes to "Ernie" on Sesame St. That was not later than
1969. In those days Ernie was Jim Henson who did many of the puppet
voices including Kermit.

You can download the Ernie-Henson version of "Rubber Ducky" and listen at:

http://www.barbneal.com/sesame.asp

Maybe your birds will enjoy it. ;-)

Speaking of yellow ducks, what's Sesame Street's "Big Bird" supposed to be?

It almost had to be later than 1969.  Sesame Street didn't even debut until
november of '69.

He's a canary.

Thanks for the links, but that was meant to be a quiz.  :P

Not bright yellow like a canary or lutino ringneck, but:

http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Ducks/Swedes/BRKSwYel.html

I remember Donald, Daisy, Huey, Dewey, and Louie as being white.
Daffy was black.

Any baby ducks that will be white as adults start out
as yellow colored fuzzy little cuties. ;-) Same with chickens.

Most commercial ducks raised for meat are Pekins and they
are a large white duck, with fuzzy yellow babies...
