Help Me Name My New Birds

Bliss - 28 Dec 2003 05:21 GMT I have two new Zebra Finches - both male and we are having a hard time deciding on names for them. We have toyed with several popular male name pairs such as Bert and Ernie, Flatt and Scruggs, Rowan and Martin, Frodo and Sam, Merry and Pippin, Harry and Ron, Starsky and Hutch, Ben and Jerry, etc. but after a couple of seconds of laughter, we cool to the idea.
We are new to this group - so I don't know if it is popular to give names to pet birds. They are both very happy, talkative critters (and we got them from Petsmart - a very pleasant buying experience).
We'd welcome any suggestions from the group.

Vincent J. Hrovat - 28 Dec 2003 07:12 GMT I fostered two female zebra finches -- named them Pippin and Jordan.

katrynka@cockrum.net - 28 Dec 2003 14:57 GMT Hi,
We started with just two zebra finches... Mr. Humphries and Mrs Slocum from the British comedy "Are you being Served?" But we quickly built a larger cage with nice glass sides to see them better, got a couple more pairs, had some deaths:( So now we just enjoy the finches, without names. But if you are going to just have two, then names are fun!
We also have 2 parakeets: Alistair and Molly(gotten at different times, unrelates names!) Two rescue doves, Betram and Beatrice, and a new Quaker: Maxwell.
have fun!

Our little Shlomo was named for the little yamulkeh spot on the top of his head and the prayer shawl lines on his wings.
Now all he does is daven incessantly, dancing back and forth bowing his head.

LOL I only have VHS so won't be getting the DVD. I will get the VHS tape when it comes out though to complete the set. It was the first time in about 10 years I have been to the cinema and it was great. I felt a little queasy though at some of the scenes where they flew over the cliffs and the land dropped away as I suffer from vertigo. But a fantastic film in all. Highly recommended. It was over 3 hours long and I was desperate to go to the loo but wouldn't in case I missed anything, plus my arm was aching like mad and swollen from a dog bite but I *still* enjoyed the film. I want to marry Legolas (drool)

I told Chuck that if had knows it was going to be such a rollercoaster I would've taken a couple of "happy pills" before going to the movies. lol

We went to see it at a small theater in town, the line to buy tickets wasn't as long as the line to go to the loo afterwards (see, I can speak british too... I said 'loo' :P)

Think we could work out some kind of sharing arrangement?
Sorry to hear about your arm. I did a number on myself once after a cat bite. Spent three days in hosptial on intravenous antibiotics. No fun.

Anyway, since you raised the issue,my husband and I, and various members of my extended family have had various mixes of dogs, cats and birds that cohabitate quite well. We obtained our latest bird from a breeder that does the same, so I think that birds and cats can manage quite well. Obviously if you want your birds to have totally free reign at all times, that is a different story. But some of us feel that the compromise of some cage time is worth having the "extended family" of other types of pets.
take care.

I use "x-no archive: yes" to keep my posts out of the Google database. That could distort search results.

Cats are notorious for carrying an unhealthy mix of bacteria in their saliva and under their claws. Cat bites and scratches can become badly infected very quickly, and this will kill a bird in a matter of hours.
I went to the hospital a mere six hours after getting bitten, and stayed there for three days.
I have cats and a parrot. I am very anal about keeping them in separate rooms *unless* I am there with them. Even then, I don't let my vigilance down for a moment. And that's with the bird in his cage.
