LOL, If I had a dollar for every time this gets asked.............. you know
the drill.
Was the bird hand fed tame? If so this is perfectly normal. Even a bird
that loves human interaction in the store, will often act like this when it
is first brought to a new home. It takes them a while to get used to the
change. Move slow, spend lots of time with it through the day, and it will
soon come around. If you do not have one, you should find an Avian Vet and
take the bird in for a well bird check up. Then you have a Vet if something
comes up later. Enjoy the bird, soon it should be making enough noise that
you will wonder what happened to that quiet bird you brought home {:-)

...You'd have made about $20 this year.

I disagree.
My advice:  Leave it alone for the most part.  Just go about your business
as usual.  A couple of very short up close visits through out the day are
fine, but still stressful for the bird.  Let the bird get comfortable with
it's surroundings first.  Then you can spend more time with it as it gets
comfortable with you.

I agree with Steve's advice.  My sun conure hates change of any kind.
It took him about 3 months to get comfortable when I first got him.
