Called Red Roof Inns, and they said no way Jose on the cat and the dog.  Any
other ideas?  Anyone else ever travel with an ark-full of animals and find a
hotel/motel that allows pets overnight?

Yeah, I read that.  It says *one* pet per room.  I have the cat and dog.  I
know they don't usually count birds, but I've got two others.  Oh well, I'll
try super8, etc.  Thanks dear.

I was also thinking, once you set your date for leaving (tomorrow!), you
can call them and have them schedule your route with their pet friendly
hotels. We stayed in 3 different RRI with the 4 birds and the cat and they
were always very welcoming. How many overnight stops are you making before
reaching Fla. 2?

LOL, you'll get used to it when you DON'T have to shovel snow just to get
out the front door. <G>
As to the motel you have to remember that even with the chains, most are
owned by individuals. Often what one Motel xyz says will be different from
what the same one say's in the next town. The "best" way to handle this is
make sure they allow a dog. Many will charge a non refundable deposit. After
you get the OK, then just stay there. Don't mention the rest of the pets. If
they hear the dog bark you already have the OK for it so as long as the rest
of the "Ark" does not raise hell and bother other guests no one will care.
Best to NEVER leave the room with the animals in the room. Eat from take out
till you get down there. It's a pain but well worth it, trust me.

Good point!  Let's see...big bugs vs. big snow drifts.  Squashing bugs is
way easier then shoveling!!!
Not to mention that it's 20 degrees here today and 80 there.  No contest!

Laurie have a great time on your way, the trip is half the fun :).  And
please give Mama a big hug for me when you see her?

BTW, I travelled for 2 months (17 states) back in the mid-90's, just my dog
and my cat and me in our minivan...I carried my dog and my cat both into my
room in a pet carrier with a towel over it ("because the dog is excitable").
By the time they found little cat litter tracks in the bathroom we were long
gone :).

LOL, you're just not devious enough <G>
With a Cat, as long as your just staying for a night to get some sleep the
"best" policy is just don't mention it, and do NOT leave the pet in the room
while you are out. When a dog is included it's "best" to say something since
most will tend to bark at a noise, and this could get you a late night knock
at the door from the management.

Except that when I check into this pet-free motel room next and my
daughter starts wheezing from the left-over presence of your cat that
normal motel-room vacuuming doesn't pick up, you're not going to care.
But I will.

If it says no pets, then find a place that allows them.  Plan ahead.

Uhh, Vicki. Maybe your daughter can teach you to read. Then you can go back
and READ the entire thread. I told her to tell the hotel that she had a dog,
and if they gave the OK, then not mention the cat. Have your daughter
explain this to you.

She understands that perfectly well.   What she's saying is that her
daughter, who is terribly allergic to cats, would have a hard time if
she had to use that hotel room after a cat had unknowlingly been in it
because it would not have been cleaned properly.
I agree it's inconsiderate of others not to tell the hotel the room
had a cat in it, as many of us are highly allergic to cat dander.

I never thought about people with allergies to cats...that changes
everything.  My SIL is terribly allergic to cats, and can barely breathe
after a short time here.  I wouldn't want anyone to have to deal with
that...not because of me.  I'll find hotels that take cats, or I'll just
drive straight through.

We are, however we rarely stay in hotels, I have 5 children and most won't
or can't accommodate that many people in one room regardless of the size of
it.  But my point was knowing how ill my daughter can become, I too would
consider this.

Any motel that will say yes to your Dog will say yes to your Cat, they just
are going to get worried when you say you have several pets. In their mind
they are picturing a mess on their beds and carpets. The Motels that are OK
with pets have a sign says "pets welcome" It does not say, "Dogs welcome".
Anyone who is allergic to animals of any kind would be advised to avoid any
motel that welcomes pets. The point is both of these posters either can't
comprehend, or just are trying to troll, since they both pretended like they
think you are trying to sneak a pet into a motel that does not allow pets,
which was never what the conversation was about. It was just about not
telling them you were traveling with several pets at the same time. A motel
will not knowingly let you check in with a bunch of humans either for the
same reason, they are afraid you're going to make a huge mess.

WRONG.   We are saying if you're going to take a cat into a motel
room, have the decency to tell the motel staff so they can clean it
thoroughly after you leave.    Seems you're having the comprehension

Well "Becky" I guess you need to have someone teach you to read also. Have
someone who has not recently gone to public school explain the post to you.
She said a "pet free" motel. I was talking about a motel that does allow
pets, they just get leery when you tell them you have several. This is
common, they are ok with one, which is why I said ask about the OK for the
dog, since that is the pet they are likely to hear.
I bet you have a diploma you can't read to huh?

What a total and utter load of reeking bullshit.

Here is your entire post, 100% uncut and unaltered:

"LOL, you're just not devious enough <G>

I'm not seeing all the qualifications you attribute to your post,
unless you believe that you had qualified it elsewhere in the thread,
*and* that you're so important that we all remember exactly what you
said in each post.  This post says to be devious, to "Just don't
mention it" but to be honest about a dog **because it might bark and
you'll get caught**.

Sorry, Alex.  Your post says not to mention a cat.  That's what I was
responding to.  If you smuggle your cat in (and yes, if you don't
*tell* them you're bringing it in, your smuggling it) then the next
person who checks in could pay the price.  Starlight and Laurie
understood me perfectly, you're the only one who seems to be having
comprehension problems.

Nice try, you are still taking one post out of a thread. People love to do
the same thing a lot of ways, take one sentence out of an article to try to
make the point they are trying to prove. A thread is a conversation, you
keep trying to take a small part of the conversation and jump on it. As I
said you either can't read / comprehend or you are just trolling. When you
find someone who can read, have them look up the thread for you and read it
to you. Laurie was having trouble finding motels that would let her take all
her pets in the room with her. No where in the thread did I recommend she
stay at a motel that did not allow pets. I told her to make sure the place
did accept pets, and warned her most would require a non refundable deposit.

I'm following the travel with pets discussion with a good deal of
interest. Even though I have no intention of travelling with my
cockatoo, I can't predict the future. This information could be
very useful to me someday.

As long as the discussion continues in the newsgroup, there is
the potential for other folks to add their experience to the
thread. New posters, lurkers, whatever. Take this to email, and
that potential goes down the tubes.

Just my two cents.

I already apologized.  I was feeling a bit pissy.  Actually, I thought the
suggestion about mums the word on the cat is a good idea.  Cats don't
usually make a great deal of noise and management need not know the kitty is
there.  And unless someone is lurking outside the door no one need know the
birds are chirping, either.

Again, I apologize.

If she can't figure out how to use O/E she may not be able to use e-mail yet
Laurie. After all she's only a software tech. <G>

So can't  use Outlook, but you're a software tech? Damn I always thought I
was almost computer illiterate, and I now find out I can do something that
is beyond the abilities of a tech?
If your going to try to bull sh.t people you need to learn to do a little
better there. Maybe you could tell people you're a secret agent or
something, you may be able to pull that off better.

Oh give me a break.  Just because I don't want to d/l and manage another
email client doesn't mean I 'm stupid.  Neither are you.  I apologized to
Marco and Laurie, so get over it.
