I have a male aulonocara baenschi alone in a 30 gal. tank (had to move him
because he is too docile for the other fish I had him with.)

Question 1: Currently he has small gravel as substrate, should I replace
that with sand?

Question 2: What are some other tank mates that would work well with him?

Question 3: Does anyone have any general information/tips for this fish?

I'm not use to having calm cichlids (i have a verity of Mbunas in other
tanks) and can use tips on this little guy.  Thanks

Rich

Hi Rich,  I'm by no means an expert but I do have 3 of the named fish.
My fish guru sold me 3 hansbaenschi, 3 Pseudotropheus greshakei, 3 P.
saulosi and 6 yellow labs.  They all get along fine (so far?) in a 55
gallon tank with fine beach sand and large rocks.  The Alpha greshakei
and hansbaenschi seem to be the bosses of the tank as they show finnage
more often.  But none of the yellow fish give them a second glance.
