My convict cichlids lay about 50 eggs a month but they end up eating al
of them. How can i prevent them from eating their own babies. I fee
them extra food when they have babies just so that they don't ea
them, but it's not working. I always thought convict cichlids take ver
good care of their babies. What shall I do

Are there any other fish in there making them nervous?  This is somewhat
unusual.  I've seen Convicts go after fish twice their size protecting
their fry.  Try sticking cardboard on the sides of the tank (with a few
holes for your viewing ability).  Sometimes they are easily startled by
objects in the room (kids in bright jackets running around, shadows, dogs
etc)

My convicts ate their first batch.  However, after that they produced and
produced.  If they feel there is any danger they will eat them also.  If
there are other fish in the tank and they do not have a concealed easily
defendable nest area they may feel threatened.

Could be the eggs were never fertilized, or even 2 females!

Perhaps they like caviar better than the fish food you're serving them now?
