i bought a cockatiel the other day and i was just wondering when i leave for
work is it good to leave the cage in front of a window, hes a bit unsociable
at the moment and sits in the corner of the cage hiding and hasnt whistled
at all, its only been two days now so i excpect that.. the cage will be
indoors all the time and i want him to start loosning up a bit with the
family is it good to leave the cage in front of the window so it can see
other birds or should i wait abit untill it gets used to use and then do
it..

You should probably see an avian vet, particularly if this is supposed
to be a hand tame bird. Even if he is not use to you, he should still
be more active than "sits in the corner of the cage hiding".
A North facing window would be good. Any other direction would be ok
as long as you make certain that there is ALWAYS a part of the cage
that has shade. When my Charley was an "only child," his cage was in
front of the window. I would keep the vertical blinds turned so that
it blocked the direct sun but he could still see out between them.

Is your cage round by any chance?

Round cages don't have corners. <G>

It shouldn't hurt if you put the cage in front of a window. I don't see any
reason to wait. Just make SURE he can always get out of direct sunlight.
Don't expect your baby to loosen up for awhile. Be patient. Understand
that he's pretty scared right now.

Birds will get attached to whoever gives them the most attention and things
that they love. I have 4 other birds other than my 'tiel and he thinks the
world of me, I suppose. He hears my footsteps in the morning and starts
screaming and "crying" (his low whistle of his name and the various sounds
he's picked up on...even my parents dog barking LOL) and he does this until
his cage is uncovered and he's on my shoulder waiting for the fresh gulp of
water from his dish. It just all depends on how much lovin' you give him is
how much x 10 he'll give back to you. They're great birds.

Yes the more attention you give them the more they get attached to
you. My cockatiels know when I pull up in the car and start
screaming.
