I have a concern --I'm getting a new sofa tomorrow. It is not being
treated with any chemical/fabric protector, however I heard that new
furniture sometimes can emit gasses. To be on the safe side, should I
remove my birds from my living room for a few days? ....and when can I
be sure that I can bring them back in??   Please tell me what you
think..and thanks for reading =)

Greetings xyze.
.
I am bird-less in Bowie, so I am not an expert 'avianologist' (let alone
knowledge of cockatiels).  Nor do I work with, deal with, and consort with
folks constructing new furniture.  So, therefore, apply my advice about your
concern with the same amount of diligence as you paid for it.
.
I would keep your birds away from the new sofa if it is made from Teflon
(TM) and you expect to subject the sofa to any amount of heat.
.
I would keep your birds away from the new sofa if they have the tendency to
hide under the cushions.  Unless, of course, you are a man.  If you are a
man, it will only come naturally to walk away from after using the new sofa
by lifting the cushion into an upright position.
.
I would keep your birds away from the new sofa if it is made from, or from
by-products made from, avocado.
.
I would keep your birds away from the new sofa if it has sharp, pointy
projections.  Also, keep them away if the new sofa has little loose buttons,
bangles or beads.  Be sure to dispose all shipping and packing materials
properly.
.
I would keep your birds away from the new sofa if you ate a lot of beans and
cabbage.  (It may not be lethal, but at the least it could be very
unpleasant for the little guys.)
.
I would keep your birds out of the living room if the new sofa is bright
red.  Ooops, sorry.  That only applies if you allow your pet bulls in your
living room.
.
There you have it, xyze; my thoughts about your concern.  (I had all of my
brain cells fired-up to make this list ... both of them.)  I hope someone
with actual bird-sense adds to this thread.  Honestly.
.
Respectfully,

Has any pet turtle ever outlived the shaker of turtle food?

Greetings Ms. Mama.
.
Thank you for your comment about my worthless information, but can you
provide any useful insight for the new furniture concerns of xyze?  I'd be
obliged if you can render any kind of pertinent opinion.
.
Plus, I have a question of my own.  Can pet cockatiels eat tiny pieces of an
omelet or scrambled eggs -- that is, of course, not meaning to take the
place of seeds and/or pellets and especially if the omelet or eggs are not
cooked in a Teflon (TM) pan or skillet?  And if they can nibble on tiny
pieces of omelet or scrambled eggs, doesn't that seem just a little morbid?
What about little pieces of fried chicken?
.

When you mix flour and water together, you get glue.  And when you add sugar
and eggs, you get cake.  Where does the glue go?

Greetings Mr. Lee

Personally I wouldn't be worried about the new sofa causing a problem for
my birds. HOWEVER, if xyze has even slight concerns about the welfare of
his/her birds, then s/he should definitely move the little birdies to
another room for a couple of days.

Of course! Morbid as it might seem, eggs are a healthy treat and so is
chicken. I would recommend baked or boiled chicken rather than fried, but
even a bit of fried, minus the skin, is fine. (And of course boiled egg
would be better than fried.)
Birds can eat *almost* anything we eat - you are aware of THE LIST? Yes,
you already mentioned avocado as a no-no so you must know about THE LIST.

But I thought you're birdless....
