This is a message I recieved on the "Quids-in" website.

I feel I must warn you that I have become aware of a number of users attempting to defraud people
selling items via the classified advertising facility. You appear to have been contacted by  these
users, "charles fraser". and brucebox_01@yahoo.co.uk
What happens is that they offer to send a bankers draft or cheque, often drawn on a foreign bank,
which is much more than the value you have requested. They then ask you to send them the difference.
The deal is that what they sent originally is counterfeit or otherwise invalid.
I would advise utmost caution if anyone should approach you with an offer such as this, especially
if they write with very poor spelling or grammar - they appear to be based in Africa, specifically
the republic of Benin, but other countries have been mentioned in their messages.
Ray.

He he .... anyone who'd fall for that would deserve to lose their money.

Andy,

Plenty of otherwise intelligent people have been known to "fall" for such
scams and have "brushed" aside the misspelling/bad grammar as someone who lacks
a familiarity with the English lang, or their own native lang.

So to say that "anyone who'd fall for that. . ." is not a very Christian
thing to say.

I don't disagree with you, but I find it amazing that despite numerous
warnings on the internet, on the news, in the papers, about such scams that
people still fall for them - in the early days people could be excused, but
not now.

Anyway, if you have the time I challenge you to say that anyone would fall
for the scam letter published here :-)

Andy,

After reading the story and the "letter" at the link you provided I have to
agree with you that that is such a letter that should throw up all kinds of red
flags.  As I recently received a similarly worded letter about an account I have
with an E-Mail service.  This letter "advised" me that IF I did not respond to
their directions that my account would be "blocked."

I of course did NOT fall for it, and I contacted their ISP (their account
had been closed for violating their EULA) as well as forwarding a copy to my
E-Mail account provider.

And yes, with all of the warnings EVERYWHERE there is little excuse for
anyone falling for these scams, but unfortunately there are still hundreds IF
not thousands of people falling for these things all of the time. . .

   It's sad, but it's true.

Aren't you the one that was booted out of the EE group a few months back?

PG,

Whom are you talking to???  To the best of my knowledge (other then dropped
connections/carriers) I've never been "booted" from anywhere. . .

PG,

If you're talking to me what is the "EE" group???  And even if you're not
talking to me what is
the "EE" group???

And just because a person is "not there anymore" it doesn't mean that
they've been "booted"
they may have gotten bored with a particular group or have had things come up
off-line that takes
precedent over spending time on-line.

Sorry Julian...wrong person, I guess. I don't think you would be involved
with  "reluctance" anyway.

PG,

Not a problem.  I'd be very surprised IF I were the only one, or the first
one to use "Digital

What are you doing up? Isn't it 'lights out' already at the institution?

She's snuck out of the ward and into the office. I suspect the night
watchmen will find her shortly...

Evidently not. It appears you're still here....

Not a very Christian thing to say? I wouldn't've thought religion would come
in to it.....
