Are all cockatiels scared of everything new that you introduce to
them? If you get a cockatiel that someone did a good job of hand
feeding and socializing, is it less scared of new stuff?

My pair hisses at every damn new thing that comes into their view.  But
Mollie is more likely to check it out before Mel.  She wasn't hand-fed, but
finger trained when I got her.  I would imagine a well-socialize bird would
take to new things much quicker.
