Hi there,

I was wondering if the group might know why my tiel shakes his head when i
talk to him.....It seems that he reponds to a few key words such as 'boy'
'hello' etc

any ideas??

It is the pitch of your voice.  I find when I whisper to Sugar he listens
closely to the words.  I think certain tones of voices will cause the bird to
shake its head.  Birds do hear louder than we do.

My teil bobs his head up and down and if that is what u mean by shakes
I sometimes bob my head back at him and he loves that and gets all
into bobbing his head up and down.

Certain lower frequencies resonate in their ear cavities. Talk with a higher
voice or whisper.

One of my male 'tiels ears resonate to the pitch of our bowls. If I strike
the bowl slightly and make it ring he goes into a frenzie almost.

Your exhaled breath is probably just slightly irritating.  You exhale more
when you say certain letters/words "h" and "b" among them.  He'l probably
shake his head if just blow a little in his face.

Hmm interesting theories......I have been trying to get my tiel to talk and
had thought it was the beginnings of voice recognition....now i'm not so
sure...!!

Try humming different frequencies until you find one that causes it. Now
find a glass or bowl that produces the same frequency by pinging a bunch.
This will explain it to you.

If you have a female teil it can not sing or imitate words but if it
is a male then I would suggest to keep trying.

That's why I (and many others) have him kill-filed.  We'd never have
even known he posted something until you had to go and reply to him...
thus giving him attention.

Do you agree with what mr taylor posted?  Was his information correct?

What good does it do too point out my posts?  Do you think you're helping
the group in some way?  Are you trying to annoy me in hope that I'll go away
after all these years and that you'll have all the bragging rights to this
great accomplishment?  or do you just have nothing better to do than follow
me around like a school girl with a crush?

You flatter yourself, twink.  Hey, what's the sound of a turd hitting the
toilet?
Need a hint:

   *plonk*

Later, twink.  When your social life develops such that you don't have to
troll a bird newsgroup for attention, you'll be better off.

Just killfile the ratbag.
By responding to him, you are GIVING him the attention.

Put the lunatic in your Bozo Bin - then maybe those of us who DO have him
killfiled won't have to indirectly read his slandrous BS through your
replies to him.

I apologise Russel.
See, we have a couple of "trolls" here, and they take pot shots at various
people and cause pointless arguements which brings down the standard of the
group.

It's slowing down, as more of us put the ringleaders in our killfilters or
"bozo-bins" (the ignore list). But they still post rubbish, on the off
chance that somebody will see it and play their childish games.

Save yourself some time, and plonk the main 3 right now: James, Pizza Gurl
(or Piezzo Girl or whatever nick it's using now) and Peter Hucker. I think
you'll find it is much quieter without those 3 children tugging on your
sleeve begging for attention.

Hope this helps.

I don't think you are a troll, Ray. I just think you let them get to you a
little too much...
At least you still have relevant info to share on certain things...

He doesn't let them get to him..... He and I both would just like to
see a few of the trolls be gone for good.

Then just plonk them - trust me, it works....

Well sorry Kathy, but right now, you are the person replying to him, and I
am the one seeing his posts.
If you and Ray both plonk him, that will be 2 extra chances for me not to
see his rubbish. Come on now.....

No it doesnt Mark. Hucker is a self confessed racisct, hates gays and
Americans, yet he is now posting to all about his baby conures. People
(mostly Americans) know what he is yet seem to accept him. I guess laughing
at the twin towers collapsing wasnt a bad thing (for him), he is becoming
popular here. I see his posts because these people reply to the sick idiot.
So why plonk him?
Mark Wilson - 15 Jul 2004 01:28 GMT
> why plonk him?

Ok. So don't plonk him.
But you are not going to acheive anything by having the same old argument
forever and ever are you?
It's like scratching chickpox - you'll only make it worse.
I have plonked the loser, and surprise surprise - I don't see much of it
anymore. Only through YOUR posts, so please, Ray. Just let it go. You'll
give yourself a stomach ulcer or cancer from all the stress.

Thats crap Mark, I've hardly posted anything for over a week, besides bird
related posts yesterday. Would you be happy if I didnt post at all? Thats
not going to happen. This plonking is bull, read the posts or ignore them or
do you have to read each and every post in a newsgroup?

I agree with Ray. I don't like plonking either so I more or less
ignore them. I will post to whatever moron I please if I feel I need
to.... some things I just can't resist :-)

Ok fine. I don't want to argue with you, just trying to help.
Seems you are stressing yourself out over all this, that's all.

Of course I don't want you to stop posting - your on topic posts are always
worth reading, and I do enjoy the OT ones as well.
What I'm saying is, I agree with you over the whole Hucker thing, and I
enjoyed arguing with him as much as you do. But not 24/7. Ease up a touch.
Think of "Hucker-Bashing" as a hobby, not an obsession. Know what I mean?

Try whistling low notes and he'll probably do the same thing.   Not sure
what that's about.
