I have a male cockatiel a litle over a year old. A friend's sister has
baby tiels. I can get one. My tiel to very attached to me and is
talking. I've heard if I get the other bird he won't be attached to me
anymore and will stop talking. Is this true even if they are kept in
different cages.

It's very possible that your current bird may develop a bond with the
other bird, & not feel as strongly about you... However, this is not
always the case. There may also be some extreme jealousy. You sort of
have to go with the individual on this one.
  Be blessed

Not true even if kept in the same cage.
