Anyone have any experience with 'tiels and melaleuca oil?  I tried it,
and I'm afraid it made my 9-month-old sick.  I'm wondering how to get
it out of him.

Thanks,

You better take the little guy to the vet ASAP!

She hasn't heard of Melaleuca Oil before.  That's why I'm looking for
additional sources of information.

This is BAD stuff.  See and read thoroughly:

http://www.exoticbird.com/gillian/teatree.html

BUT you need to get your bird to a vet who knows about this oil ...
very toxic.

Thank you.  This is the kind of information I was looking for and it
was very helpful.

The little fellow is being treated, and the vet thinks he'll be OK.

And hopefully you won't do something foolish like that again before
you research it first!

Might I ask *why* you gave this stuff to your bird? And *why* you didn't do
some research before forcing poison into the poor little sod? No doubt you
will now be lookin for another bird since your present one is likely to die
a slow horrible death.

Don't jump to conclusions!  I put it on ME, not the bird!  The stuff
is marketed as safe and environmentally responsible, and nothing I saw
indicated there was any danger to it at all.  I AM getting rid of it.
OK, so I fell for a scam.  Don't make me feel worse for being human.

Huh? The original post sounded to me like you gave it to the bird
because you asked "I'm wondering how to get it out of him?"or did you
mean your 9-month old son??...

ex  WGS Hamm cares a great deal about hers and other peoples birds, so
that is why she responded that way. I don't blame her one bit!

managed to ingest some?

What did you mean by "I'm wondering how to get it out of him?"
I have a product called Mellafix - but it's to put in aquarium water for
sick fish. My point is that it does have great antiseptic properties. The
Melalueca is an Australian tree. It is a species of Tea Tree. Tea Tree Oil
has great healing properties. I use it all the time. But as for putting it
on your Tiel, don't do it. Use proper medicine from a vet.
