My cockatiel is getting lonely she screams when i leave the room and isn't
happy unless i'm sitting right next to her cage. I'd let her out more but
my girlfriend has two cats so its not really safe unless they are locked up!
Anyhow a friend of mine has a parakeet they are wanting to find a home for
and i was wondering if i could put them in the same cage together. She
needs someone as the amount of time i do spend with her is not enough,
she's used to being open in the pet store. I feel bad I am home all day, I
just can't let her out 24/7 like she wants to be!!

You are a flock member so she does not feel safe unless you are nearby. There
is safety in flock numbers. I have seen parakeets in with cockatiels at pet
stores and at a friends house. Be sure to stay close to observe your
cockatiel's reaction to having a cage mate when the parakeet is first introduced
to her.
