If you have a cockatiel that has lived in the same cage his whole life
(about 2 years) and try to replace it with a new one that isn't the
same will he be able to get comfy and be able to sleep in his new
cage? or will he completely discard it?

He will adapt. Just place his toys in roughly the same places and the
perches too.

Try moving the old cage right beside the new one so he can get used to its
presence. Then slowly move toys, food bowls, etc into the new one.

Mine still plays in his original for a month cage. He finds the door and
sits in it. Mind you this is also his outside cage so he may be asking to go
outside.
Do it slowly. Let him play in it and move toys over before locking the door.
They adapt.
