our tiel is less than a year old but has yet to learn to fly.he
started with us with wings clipped as soon as they came out.
he seems very eager to fly.when ever he sees us his first reaction is
to join us by flying.he looks upward sizing the height of the ceiling
and poises to leap but always hesitates.
he can use his wings to propell himself when absailing his cage or to
leap from a table to one of the chairs.
sometimes he will beat his wings like a little two engined airplane,
and start taxiing across the floor too.
usually he sumersaults backwards, often breaking the last plume from
his tail, which quickly sprouts back again.
he has yet to molt his clipped feathers.from a safety standpoint i am
not sure i want him to fly.but it melts your heart to see him trying.

He's still young, but give him time. Flying is a natural instinct, and he
will soon be buzzing around like a pro! My tiels and parakeets did the very
same thing as yours when first learning. I just made sure they were in a
room with carpet or something soft to land on while testing their wings.

I have had a few like that as well and they will learn in time, keep them on
the floor when training, something soft like a thick blanket or something,
somersaulting backwards can be dangerous.

simply stated....adults can't fly. Only birds can.
