Hello,

I was recently handed two unweaned baby cockatiels, as the kids had
left the door open and the parents flew out of the house, the people
knew nothing about hand feeding the babies, heck they even wanted to
take the time to read up on the subject,  but anyway my question is, 1
bird a gray, still getting his feathers won't eat the formula?  does
anyone know why?  he makes the hissing sound like the lutino does when
feed him/her  but won't eat from the seringe...

anyone know of or got any ideas ?

Thanks

You have to feed directly into the crop with a crop tube, you can get them
from your vet, and they can show you how, its a two person job, or you need
to find someone with a pair of breeding tiels and give them to them and
hopefully they will adopt and feed them, this is extremely urgent as
depending how old they are they need to feed, we feed our babies four to
five times a day untill they wean, I hope you find someone or learn how to
gavage feed, they will die if you dont.  Good Luck

no you don't at all. In fact gavage feeding is not common at all and rare
in the UK. Used mainly by parrot farmers who need to get the hudreds of
chicks fed in as litle time as possible. The rest of us spoon feed.

you can get them

or spoon feed and it's a one person job with no chance of piercing the crop
or gullet or loading food directly into the lungs.

They are going to die let's face it.

Why do you gavage feed? It is considered unpleasant, intrusive and not nice
at all except in cases of emergency here.A bit ike force feeding.

Great :-)

The hissing is directed at you, as to say holy sh.t who is and what are you,
keep handling them and it will stop.
Except when they get a fright or see something strange.

Then chicks that deserve a chance to live just die over there????

The rest of us spoon feed.

Too messy, we use a schringe

You can load the lings with a spoon too, they can inhale it
quite easily if you dump too much in, then they die of pneumonia.

The tubes are a very soft and plyable plastic, no chance of
piercing anything, softer than what they use in humans intravenously.
             Do some homework........

> >or you need

Yes, with our own, we have 8 pair of  breeders.

We only do it to a baby that is to small to fend for itself or
being pushed aside, ignored by parents or sick, we believe every chick has a
right to live no matter what the circumstances.

nope we allow the parents to rear them or we spoon feed.

you don't dump the food in, nor force, nor pour. You allow the bird to gulp
it down. It takes a little skill though and some time and effot in cleaning
up. A bird mill like yourselves wants to do it as quickly as possible with o
effort and no cleaning up, regardless of how unnatural it is. My stomach
churns when I think of a defenceless baby bird having a tube forced down its
throat to feed it instead of being allowed to feed naturally from a spoon at
its own pace. It is abusive ad similar to the methods used by French farmers
to produce foi gras. Force feeding is abusive.

so what nature decides has problems and is too weak, you with dollars
uppermost in your mind, decide to save regardless of possible future
problems or weaknesses. Every one which dies is dollars out of your pocket
after all eh?

Nice weapon she pulls out. The old "abusive" label.

See, now if you don't do it her way you are "abusive" and some kind of

life is in mind bitch, we give our tiels away to those that want and cant
afford, everyone that does die are tears of sadness from our eyes here, we
take our tiels very serious here, so take a long walk on a short pier, and
when your in need of help dont cry for help, its nature calling you.
