Gday, Im fairly new to this group, doesnt seem to get much traffic, but I
was hoping for a little educated advice.
I have a 4 1/2 week tiel, he is wonderful. Ive been handfeeding him for 2
weeks, and all seems to be going well.
He is really tame, and in the last 2 days has learned to fly. ( I felt like
a new mum watching her baby taking their firsts steps. LOL) He is starting
to pick at his food, (pellets, carrots, corn, apple's etc) But he seems to
really have cut down on his handfeeding. He seems happy and healthy enough,
but, I am a little worried cause he is only really stuffing himself with
handfeeding once a day, the other 2 feeds are more little snacks.
Should I be worried? He is pooing ok, I think. I havent seen him touch his
water in his cage though, But Im guessing he is getting enough water from me
with his handfood.
Well, any advice would be helpful.
Thank you
Fiona Macdonald

Its fine, your baby is weaning itself, it will eventually just stop taking
it. Keep a close watch on him though, im surprised you havent caught him
trying to drink, is there ant other tiels for it to learn from???, if not I
would start to put him on a water dish and kinda give em a dunk to let it
know that this is a watering hole, it will catch on, you may have not just
been able to see it though also. Peace

The water may be a concern. My guy was put on a water dispenser with the
coloured ball on the end. We found him dive bombing our drinks and wondered
why he would dive right into our tea cups and drink. Then I figured it out
that he didn't know how to get water from it. After a few pokes in the beak
with the ball he discovered he could lick it uup and he was fine. He may
need training to drink from the dish like TRC said in his response.
We are a friendly group but also very nasty. Just ignore the bad and get a
thicker skin. There are some very experienced people here to learn from but
you may have to dig to get it.
Never ever listen LadyT. Until she goes out on a date with me she is
nothing but trouble here and will chew your ear off.
(I wish it was mine)
