I have a cockateil and have had it for some time. It has been very
nice to me for atleast two years...I mean like let me scratch his head
kiss him and whatnot but for a few weeks now he has been agressive
such as he will just be hanging out and I will get up to get him or
give him a millet spray and he runs out and takes flight, beak open
and he just flys straight for me or my head so naturally I duck to get
away and he lands on me so I stand up straight and he then attacks my
ear so I shosh him off using my shirt as a beak bite softener and put
him in his cage to punish him and I have been doing this over and over
but it is not stopping him from attacking me. Am I doing something
wrong? Any advice?

Hi,
My male cockatiel does exactly the same thing. I think I've discovered why.
Does your cockatiel have a 'mating' toy at all? Or does he go into small
dark places?
My cockatiel mates with a soft toy sheep, then he goes under a unit and
whenever I go near it he runs out and attacks me he'll fly up and bite my
face or try to get to any bit of bare skin! He bites really really hard.
I think it must be hormones or to do with mating season or something.
I'm afraid I haven't found a solution yet, I've tried to take away the soft
toy and cover up any 'dark' spaces under units..it seems to work for  a
short time.
My cockatiel was also extremely friendly until he turned nasty 3 years ago!

1: Duck quicker
2: Stop punishing
3: Get it a friend

Yes he does have a mating toy it is just a soft yellow pillow and he
does back up into a dark corner.

To TRC: He has a friend but it is a bunny but he also has a canary
freind. I am suppost to get bitten and just walk away? It is not like
I hit him or anything. I just put him in his cage.

Have a chew toy inhand, and put it in its way of biting you, I would also
put a perch and toys(a mirror) on top of  the cage and put the bird there
instead of inside.
By friend I meant a tiel, preferably of the opposite sex.
