Help my cockatiel has started bring up his food then reeating it , he only
does it behind his cage it started at the beginning of may so I took him to
the vet ,and they could find nothing wrong with him then he stopped doing it
,until last week when he started again. Is he ill or is it a mating thing ,
or some behaviour problem which is what the vet seem to think. Any help
would be great. Thanks

Maybe he is having a problem digesting his seed. What has his diet been
consisting of?  Food, as in "seed", or table food?

"Maybe he is having a problem digesting his seed"

He isn't. The vet has already made a diagnosis which was correct IMO.

Was the vet an avian vet? Did the vet do any bloodwork? It is **highly**
unlikely that it is behavioural. It could be any number of things -
bacterial infection - yeast infection.... I would get a second opinion
from an avian vet. With regards to mating behaviour, is your tiel being
extra lovey to perches and other things????? When he vomits, can he see
his reflection in a mirror or window? Or is it just random.

You took him to a vet who diagnosed what it was. Read a couple of
behavioural books.
Why do you imagine that anyone here can make a cyber diagnosis?
Carl Darby - 08 Jun 2005 22:26 GMT
you have!

Sounds exactly like a Peachface I used to have. He used to regurgitate all
over his foot - like he was feeding it.
Used to drive me nuts, so I ended up getting him a mate. He stopped doing it
once he had a lady friend ;-)
This sounds like a similar scenario...

My parakeet used to do this all the time too - me thinks he needs a
friend, but not sure.

Mine does regurgitate over his foot
How old was yours when you got him a mate?

Yeah than it's most likely a behavioural issue.
I would say he wants a mate. Would this be an option for you?
I would consider it - he'll be happier and will stop "feeding" his
foot.......

Do you have a big enough cage for 2 birds?
