Hi-

We have a cockatiel - we put a cover over his cage each night from
about 7am - 7pm.

We're going to be out of town for about 4 days....is ok to leave his
cage uncovered during the span.
I wouldn't think it'd be a prob...but the mrs. wanted to know.

Thanks

Yes, it's ok to leave the cage uncovered, but it is definately NOT a good
idea to leave the bird unattended for that long.

Birds in general, and Tiels in particular, are very social, especially at
meals. If taking him with you is not an option, then I suggest you have a
trusted friend or relative check on your little buddy for about an hour or
two each day, minimum, or longer if possible. All they really have to do is
make sure the food and water dishes stay clean and full, and talk to him, so
he doesn't get too lonely. Stress and depression are much easier to prevent
than to treat.

This is probably a few months too late, but I agree that it's not good
to leave the bird alone for some days.  I got a second cockatiel so my
first would not be so dependent on me, but even then I have someone come
in twice a day when I am away and ideally let the birds out to fly and
hang out in addition to attending to the water and food.
