My vail tail...with the black ...which looks like fin rot. Has not been a
happy chappy.
Resting consistantly on the bottom of the tank.
I have given a salt bath.....however not too sure how much salt per volume
of water.
Still no improvement.
I have moved the vail tail to my larger tank thinking that it could of been
the smaller tank, and giving it more company...however its made no
difference.
I am also thinking of quarantining the fish just incase it speads to the
other fish.
Any suggestions to what I should do next.
Its such a shame...such a beautiful fish.
I have followed your other instructions ingred ...clean water daily.....75%
change
with salt added....1 teaspoon per gallon.
NZed
PS its body looks maybe a little bloated...just thinking constipation ? I
have offered some peas ...but it hasnt tried to eat them....not really been
intersted in eating.
You know, your a f.cking idiot. Why don't you search on the net how to do
things? You giving the fish a salt bath, but you don't know how much salt/
water to use! If you don't know some thing how to do, just don't do it.
These are living things, not your sink in the kitchen or your car in the
garage.
Why don't you dip you fish into battery acid! Maybe that would works!?
Why you do 75% water change daily, to stress out the fish, idiot? Do you
de-chlorinate you water at all?
Did you test the water quality, for PH, Nitrate, Ammonia?
There are medication for fin rot, ick etc... at any pet store for a few
$$$'s. Just follow the direction written on it.
Even if you do the right thing, it takes a few days for the fish to recover,
unless you done some real damage.
Than forget it, feed it to the cat.
If you stress out the fish, looses it's protection of sliminess, that's why
it gets fin rot, ick or other illnesses.
Think about it?
Gold fish is a very hardy fish, it takes a lot more to stress it out than a
tropical fish. Ammonia, Nitrate can build up in the tank quick, major
hazard to any fish..

isolate the fish. do the tub to tub on the website which is a 100% water change.
http://www.mu.edu/~buxtoni/puregold/disease/disease.htm

you need lots of clean water and a bit of salt to get the fin rot stopped. now. is
there any chance this fish has some kinda of cooties? it takes a couple weeks of
pristine water and a bit of salt up to 3 teaspoons per 5 gallons to get fin rot
stopped. and keep teh water well aerated and warmed up to 75oF. very small feedings
of high quality food. Ingrid

Hey guy, why you giving him bull sh.t advice with salt bath, idiot. $2-$3 he
can buy medication at any pets store for the fish to cure fin rot or similar
diseases. Very common when the fish is stressed out, my fishes had that many
times, last 5-6 years. He has to get his water in good condition, means no
ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and proper PH. Than add the medication.
That's all.

I'd suggest going 3 teaspoons per gallon for a 0.3% if it is indeed fin rot!
dr-solo@wi.rr.xx.com - 26 Oct 2004 23:32 GMT
0.3% salt can actually cause shredding of fins. lower is better for fin rot. Ingrid

> 0.3% salt can actually cause shredding of fins. lower is better for fin rot. Ingrid
I've been using 0.3% for about 2 years and I've never seen any of my Moors have
shredded fins as a result. I've always found 0.3% works well for fin rot, ick
and
fungus, but thats just my experience.
Why are you only doing 75% water changes? How big is your tank and is
it heated or filtered? What kind of water conditioner to you use?
If this tank is not cycled and you are only doing 75% water changes,
you are never completely removing the ammonia, leaving your fishie
constantly exposed to some level of ammonia. This in turn eventually
wears down his immune system leaving him wide open for anything out
there.
I am not an advocate of salt. Freshwater fish are just that, meaning
fresh water. Sometimes the salt itself is enough to cause stress if
not used in the proper amounts. IME, I have found that often times,
clean, warm water and good food are enough to give the fishie a jump
start on fighting off illness.
