Hi,

We are new to fish.  We recentlyy got a bubble eyed fish for our five
year but now are worried that it is lonely since we read that bubble
eyeds are social.   We also have a guppy in another tank and thought to
put them together.  Is that a good idea?  our tanks are rather small.

Thanks kindly.

Um...bubble eye as is big outstandidng eyes, or bubble eye as is air filled
sacs near the eye?? You are talking about a goldfish aren't you??

I would not advise putting another type of fish with the goldfish. I hope
you have the goldfish in a 10 gallon (37Litre) tank...otherwise your poor
fish wont last long...If you want to add another fish to accompany they
bubble-eye, find a 20 gallon tank and buy another goldfish...something like
a fantail, moor, ranchu, loinhead, oranda. I would advise against getting a
comet or common at this stage.

What do you use for filtration?? Do you have a air-pump? What sort of food
are you foeeding your fish?? What is your water change pattern? What size
tank do you currently have?? Are you planning on getting another tank? Do
you or can you take a water sample to your pet shop to get tested??

Sorry about all the questions :-)
Yell out if you need a hand
cheers!

In general bubble eye goldfish are not good beginner fish.  They are
rather delicate due to the eye sacs and are considered one of the most
delicate of fancy varieties.   Please tell us more about your set up so
that we can help you better.

The thing with some pet shop is that they label their fish incorrectly....My
lfs labels a celestial and moor as 'bubble eye' fish..when they are clearly
of the telescopic kind...so...i guess its a good think to establish this as
there are heaps of begginer calling telescopic eyes bubble eyes
