Hi Rhonda, The first thing that comes to my mind is make sure your
water is pristine.  Water changes every day, I would start feeding
medicated food just to avoid any infection.  Keep him/her in a tank by
himself so no other fish are picking at the injury.  Make sure you have
no decorations that he could get injured even further.   Put a silk or
live floating plant in the q-tank so he is more comfortable.  I have
seen so many tanks with decorations that are just accidents waiting to
happen.  Caves with openings that are too small can injure telescope or
bubble eyes, oranda wens, you get the picture.  Sharp objects to get
those long flowing tails caught on.  All no no's in golfish tanks.  You
pretty much have to baby proof them.  If your q-tank is not cycled you
will have to keep a close eye on the water perams.  very important!  If
you can get some Polyaqua by Kordon it will help with healing.  Good
