Hi,
I have a fairly small tank (40cm x 20cm x 20cm) with for the moment only
one goldfish. I had more but they died probably because there was not
enough oxygen in the water. So I bought an airpump (2000cc, the smallest
I could find). I have it installed and now there surely is enough oxygen
in the water. But because of all the bubbels, the water is not as calm
as before (kinda looks like it is almost boiling). Is this stressfull
for the fish? Should I put the pump off at night so the fish can rest?
Or can I safely leave it on and will my fish enjoy the extra oxygen
without being disturbed by all the bubbels? For the moment, he hardly
ever comes to the surface to grasp for air, which he did a lot before
(which is a good sign I guess). But he is also very active, kinda like
he is anxious, or in panic.

You could get a valve that lets it bubble slower, or a rock/pot for him to
rest in. By the way 40x20x20 is too small for a goldfish.

I did the valve thing. Easy, cheap and effective, thx for the tip.

Yeah, I heard it before. Am looking for a bigger second hand. The budget
isn't on my side though ;)

Look for a used setup.
You can get those often for 1/2 price or less....
Cheers!

Obtain an oxygen test kit, they are not expensive, then test.
You may even find that you don't require aeration, if you have sufficient
water movement.
