Are baby gold fish coloured or are they all bronze from when they hatch
until several months of age ?
As compared to Koi which can be coloured from the time they hatch .

Any advice is appreciated

Generally it won't be until the fry are around 2 months old that you'll
be able to see some colour - even then it's likely to change.

I've put some pictures of my fry from this year online, here:

The mother was a shubunkin but the fry are varied - some natural bronze
while others show a lot of colour.

The two surviving fry in my goldfish pond last
year looked like minnows (the steelhead kind,
not the rosy red kind) until they were about
6 months old.  Eventually they turned solid
gold for the one, and reddish-gold & white
for the other.  So it's not just the shubunkin that
are dark when young.

Our sarassas are brown as fry, then turn red and white or white in less than
a year.  The Shubunkins are not hatched out all brown but are clear, spotted
etc from a very small size.

Goldfish fry are clear at birth. After 1/2 month color will start to develop
that generally takes 50-60 days. However, color changes can happen as long
as 2-3 years depending on fish type.
