I read ( a while ago )  on a goldfish keeper's website, that finely chopped
lettuce is
a good alternative to the regular *flake* type food.

I tried it tonight & every tiny piece of lettuce was consumed within
seconds !

Any advice about sensible goldfish feeding would be GREATLY appreciated !!!

Lettuce has little nutritional value and should be a "treat" only.  Feed
goldfish or koi pellets with the highest protein you can find.

The type of lettuce matter too.
I wouldn't toss in iceburg lettuce, but romaine, sure.
What are the other types that are used, RM?

For a long time now I have often given my tropicals leftover chopped
spinach,(I cook it plain) however I recently gave some to my goldfish
and lost 3 of them within a weeks time. In a later posting you write of
losing your goldfish, I was thinking maybe the lettuce had some adverse
effect. My goldfish have not gotten spinach since and I've not lost any
others.

land based food is not good for fish.  get spirulina or other water based "greens"
more suitable.  fish ARE very, very sensitive to pyrethrums, which are typically used
on organic veggies.  Ingrid
