Visible blood vessels in tail

When I got home from my recent business trip (1 week in Japan) and had the
energy to look at the fish in detail I noticed that Hoshi has a couple of
visible blood vessels in his caudal fin.

Hoshi is a sarasa comet, about 5" long, all white except for an orange spot
on his forehead.  His activity and appetite seem to be good.  I tested the
water:  pH 8, Ammonia 0 ppm, Nitrite 0 ppm, Nitrate 20 ppm.

Normal or cause for concern?

Are you sure they haven't always been there? If you look closely at white
fish you can often see thin red veins in their caudal fin. I have a white
oranda and she has visible red veins in hers and is completely healthy and
happy. I think it's just because the fin is more transparent than fins of
another colour and you can see the veins more clearly. As long as your water
parameters are ok and stay that way then I wouldn't worry too much unless it
becomes worse, or if you know for sure that they weren't visible before you
went away.

No, I'm not sure.  They could have always been there.

Do the blood vessels look inflamed or is it just that you can see them
through the fins?

I'm not sure what inflamed would look like.

Ok,
Those look like normal blood vessels to me.
I've had many fish with clear and white or translucent fins and you
can see their blood vessels clearly.
It's time to be alarmed when an entire area or section becomes
inflamed and they all fill with extra blood. This looks more like a
bloody patch from a side view, but your fish looks completely normal
to me. Notice the top and bottom vessels are symetrical. Those vessels
are a little larger than the others, so you would naturally see more
red from the added blood running through.
I had a male Betta with clear fins once. When I would do a water
change on his tank, he'd get a bit stressed and you could see how red
his fins got from the high blood pressure. = o  (poor guy did not like
water changes.)  When he settled down, his fins lost the red road map
look and were back to clear.

Thanks.  This is pretty much the consensus from the various places I've
asked but I just wanted to check.
