Hi All,

I have recently acquired a lovely 7" Channel Catfish, upon hearing that he
was about to be "flushed". He is quite happy all alone in a 20 gallon tank,
as I understand that he is very territorial and in no way will he be
introduced to my main tank. I am after some advice/tips on keeping "The
Beast" (as he has aptly been named)  on keeping this guy happy and thriving.
The Local Fish Store was less than convincing in the advice offered. I am
based in the UK if that is of any matter and the advice would be truly
appreciated.

If that's what we called a channel cat, prepare to buy a
succession of larger tanks.  I grew up on the Ohio River, and I
saw channel cats that went over 100 pounds :-).

lol,

I am basing this on matching the fish to the pic. I have read up on the
Channel Cat and am not looking forward to it at all ;o)

Where in the UK? If you want some good UK advice, contact
www.swallowaquatics.com. Probably better to ring them.  Try the
Norfolk branch - they've got large catfish, one of which is
substantially bigger than 7" (about 3.5feet) with a lovely warning
saying something along the lines of

x was bought in a goldfish bowl.  Got bigger. Several tanks later we
took him on.  He currently sits in a x size tank on a special
re-inforced concrete and steel stand.  Remember, fish get big.

Hence why I like these guys so much - they're always handy to talk to
about pretty much anything & have a wide range of stock and equipment.
I go there with my girlfriend every month or so - it's like walking
round a (free) aquarium.
