Is this a "how long is a piece of string" question?

If I provide lots of room, a good diet and food water quality, how
quickly do they grow?

Sophie, depends on genetics for one and diet for the other.

thanks! I was looking at goldfish in a shop the other day - some were
obviously little more than fry (you could barely tell what colour some
would be and they had those "undeveloped" faces) and there were some
fancies nearly the size of my hand. I was guessing mine were a year or
two on from the titchy ones, but couldn't work out how old the bigger
ones were.

I was right about the piece of string...
