Hi

I'm having difficulty writing this.

Panda died about 8.10 p.m. today. She had been unwell for some time and we
were unsure what it all was. Today she was panting badly, had a lot of
gurgling in her head passages. But Sylvia thought her heart was giving out.

This evening we had her home and she spent the time in the 'hospital' cage
with us coming to talk and to pet her. She went into an odd position and I
took her into my arms to calm and reassure her. Jackie was there also. But
after settling down she had a couple of convulsions and then died.

It would have been fairly peaceful as it was all over so quickly.

We will bury her in our garden where she loved to plutter around on the
lead. She never really tried to leave it.

Her last hours were spent looking at us and we think thanking us. We were
returning the gesture.

Writing this has helped me to get over the immediate shock, and I hope you
don't mind.

A picture of her is at

LOL Jackie and Richard.

I'm so sorry your beautiful bunny girl has gone.

It's gonna hurt like hell, but at least she died in your arms, and
not alone and with no-one to comfort her.

She was a lucky girl to have a loving forever home, and I'm sure
she knew it and loved you both too.

RIP, Panda bunny.

Hi Richard and Jackie,

We know the pain you are feeling, the grief and the loss. Napoleon's death
last week totally devastated us.

We will say a prayer to help you through this difficult time.

That is a shock, Richard. I guess I spaced out or ignored that all was
not well. She was so terribly adorable.

I am saddened by your loss.

You are a wonderful addition to this group, and I hope you will not
leave us.

I am sorry Panda had to.

Hi

Panda had had a succession of problems with her teeth and particularly her
eyes, blocked tear ducts and bulging eyes. When we thought we had conquered
one thing another propped up but for the last 2 weeks she seemed OK. Then we
noticed she was drooling badly and appeared to have a swollen left cheek.

Into Vets next morning and Sylvia sedated her and had a good look but was
not able to find anything except the large amount of liquid in her head. She
took blood samples but really told us her heart was probably giving out.
It's funny but you want to be told what is wrong but when the message comes
through that things are bad you take nothing in. We were going to make her
comfortable for the night and return next day for the blood results and any
action but she left us. Thank God we took her home to be with us for her
end.

Thanks for asking the question, Replying has helped.

Hi

A bit more - sorry - but it helps at this end.

Two things with Panda:
In the early days we noticed she didn't use the house litter box much so we
brought into the house her triangular litter tray. (She likes to be carried
in it sitting at the pointed end like the girl in the Titanic film; so that
theme song is Panda's tune.) From that we realised that the triangle was
like a security blanket to a child;
She liked cloth and Jackie gave her a damask linen napkin. She loved to sit
in her hutch on this. If/when it got soiled she would draw it out to be
washed and ironed. (She wouldn't have it back if it wasn't ironed.)

We buried her at the bottom of the garden where the Guinea Pigs were buried
about 20 years ago. I put her in her triangle (which I modified for
drainage),wrapped in her napkin. And we toasted her in pineapple juice.

God Bless. LOL

Dear, sweet Panda. I can picture her to the Titanic theme now. My heart is
breaking, but you'll see your little girl again some day.

Hi

A last posting...

Bloods revealed nothing untoward so her time was up. Heart failure Sylvia
said.

Last night at the time we bring her in to us for the evening. we played her
tune. Celine Dion sang and for nearly 5 minutes; it was beautiful.
Wonderful; so clear. It wasn't a mistake. We knew she was there too. And
although there will be more weepy moments I feel, that for me, our goodbyes
were finally said and we can start to put our lives together again.

THANKS EVERY ONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT.     I can't reply individually it would
be too painful. But thanks to you all individually.

Little H did a funny thing in the morning at grooming time. She bunnied
(chinned) everything of Panda's; bunnied inside and she bunnied outside; all
over not just a mark here and there. It was like she was trying to call her
back. We felt so sad for her. They were litter sisters, and in the early
days Panda looked after her. In those days they were so close Jo (her first
owner) felt she had to buy them both rather than just the one bunny. We put
them together [as I believe she had to be told of Panda's passing] after
Panda died but the old aggression was still there. It is so sad. But she
will miss her.

Lots of love to you all and thanks again,

Jackie and Richard.

I am so sorry about Panda.  At times like this I start to ponder about
our rabbits.  I find I have to remember that in nature they don't live
more than a couple of years on the average, as they are prey and they
also are at the mercies of the conditions around them.    The years we
have with them are gifts to both of us from the Creator.

My nightly meditation and prayer time with the kids is my sanest and
most special time of the day.  It is pretty standard Episcopal prayer
up to the end, then I give thanks for the gift of my little family [I
have only furkids, not skinkids] and recognize that they are really on
loan and that I am their steward on earth.  [Mind you, the kids like
that part the best and tend to take is a bit too seriously ;-) .]

You and Jackie were good and faithful stewards of the Creator's gift
to you and please take comfort in that.

I've been away for the last week and just saw your post that Panda has
made her journey way too soon.  I'm so sorry for your loss and send
prayers of comfort to you and yours at this sad time.
