I thought Thumper was dying

Although Thumper is still having a hard time with his mobility. he has
improved greatly since the steroid treatment (Azium). He is no longer
dragging his leg, he is up on all fours again and hops in his cage to eat
and pee. The peeing part is a great help to me (tired of washing his area
rugs every single day). He had a bit of a cecal mess today and I bathed his
back end.

I went to kiss him good night and he was laying in a flopped position (not
his normal sleeping arrangement). He was breathing. I went in his pen and
touched him and he did not move, I lifted his head, no reaction but still
breathing. I really thought he was on his way, I petted him for 5 minutes
thinking that at any moment he might stop breathing, then he jumped up and
started grooming me. WHEW! Deep sleep? Anyhow, he's eating his dinner and
washing his face now...goodnight.

What a scare.....I'm glad Thumper is doing better.  I would've been
frantic.  Qtip sleeps deep sometimes too.  I can pet her for a minute
or so and she never wakes up.  I touch the tops of her feet and she is
up in a bolt.

I never do it on purpose Professor..................:) I always let her
sleep peacefully.  It was by accident I discovered it the first time.

Oh wow Christine,
That is just too much! LOL
I've not heard of Azium steroid. I'm glad it has helped, but will it be long
term? Is it safe?
If I had the money, I would have attempted to get the Cartrophen treatment
for Cocoa. It is supposed to help rebuild the cartiledge in the joints.
Maybe you could look into it for Thumper.

Oh my gosh, isn't that just THE worst feeling???!!   Romeo has done that to
me a few times.  I'll see him laying strangely on the floor and he's not
moving.  I go to sit down next to him (which usually causes him to jump up
and see what I'm doing) and he doesn't move.  No ears up, no head up, no
movement at all.  I literally burst into tears one day because I thought the
poor little guy had died!!  That was during a recent bout of illness, but
still...it scared me to death!!  And then, just like Thumper, he suddenly
jumped up like "what did you wake me up for, mom?!?"  And he hops off and
all is well.

Those little kids....they'll get you every time!
