Arlette & Cocoa - 19 Jan 2008 19:40 GMT ***Wind chill warning for City of Thunder Bay continued ***
Wind chills below minus 40 tonight. This is a warning that extreme wind chill conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.
Very cold Arctic air will persist over the Great Lakes today. Snowsqualls off Lake Superior are currently southwest of the Sault Ste Marie area and will drift northeast into Sault Ste Marie early this afternoon. An additional 5 to 10 centimetres are likely today and again tonight in snowsquall areas. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully due to whiteout conditions from bursts of heavy snow.
Frigid temperatures will continue over northwestern Ontario. Temperatures near minus 30 degrees combined with winds of 15 to 20 km/h will produce wind chill values in the minus 40 range tonight and early Sunday morning.
I had to post this after getting a snow pic from Beth. It is so COLD everywhere in North America! Even Ray is wearing his long johns down in Las Vegas. He went to the Grand Canyon Thursday and there was snow there.
He's leaving to go down to Havasu Sunday afternoon and it really isn't that warm there now. POO! I hope it warms up for him. I'm holding out for a trip to Aruba :) I want HEAT!
I've been covering up Cocoa's legs at night since you can feel the cold air coming off the windows. The house snap, crackles and POPS so loudly, it's creepy! :0

Brandy - 19 Jan 2008 22:51 GMT Arlette; we are expecting 30 cm of snow tomorrow and high winds, another messy day; know where you're coming from. I love soft fallen snow everyone says i'm crazy; i guess it reminds me of Christmas. How is my little boy, tell him I will be in touch. hugsDeb(zoe, tabitha and tiffany)
> ***Wind chill warning for > City of Thunder Bay continued *** [quoted text clipped - 26 lines] > air coming off the windows. The house snap, crackles and POPS so loudly, > it's creepy! :0 Arlette & Cocoa - 19 Jan 2008 23:32 GMT Hi Deb dear, I'll let you have that snow if you like it so much. One thing this little old lady I lived with during my university days used to say, "at least you don't have to shovel the cold"! LOL
Cocoa is doing really well. He walked around pretty well today. Some days he does a few laps around the livingroom, other days just one and then stand around. I think it is more because of boredom. I'll have to take him back to the garage. It's much more interesting in there. I've just gotten lazy. I picked up his Lasix refill today too.
Sorry I've not written to you more...just...so....tired........ :) Cocoa sends licks and says thanks again for the bunny blankie. He uses it a lot. With this deep freeze, the cold air comes in off the windows at night near where Cocoa lays, so I put his blankie over his little feet.
Ok, fluids time! Oh, I've got my computer set on Vegas time if the discrepancy of time seems weird. LOL

WZ - 19 Jan 2008 23:16 GMT Ugh - I know. It was -20 (though bright and sunny) in Chicago today with the wind chill, and I had to be out and about. AND one of the things I had to do was the SpaDiDah day at the local shelter and I had plans to take Pepper in for a grooming and nail trim. We've been getting on so well that I wanted her to be mad at THEM and not me!
I made a reservation for my car-sharing service and popped her into her carrier. I wrapped a light blanked around the carrier for the trip from home-to-car and from car-to-shelter. She was a real trouper! In addition to the indignity of groomingz and trimz (They got about half a bunny-weight of fluff off of her) she had to put up with me hauling her out of the carrier and showing her off. It was seemingly Netherland Dwarf Day at the shelter - all these tiny little hyper bunnies, so I had to bring her out for comparison. She even put up with my making several stops for groceries etc on the way home - she stayed in the nice warm car.
She's currently sulking under the papasan chair. I'm not going to even bother trying to bribe her into forgiveness for a few more hours yet. Woe is me!

Arlette & Cocoa - 19 Jan 2008 23:26 GMT Aww Wendy, what a day for that Pepper girl!
I love ND's; that's was my dear Brownie was.
Car sharing huh?? I've been reading about that. I wish we had it here in Thunder Bay. Does it work well?

WZ - 20 Jan 2008 02:28 GMT > Car sharing huh?? I've been reading about that. I wish we had it here in > Thunder Bay. Does it work well? It seems to work best in areas where there is really good public transportation. People use that to go to/from work but still need access to a car for some things like shopping and other errands. Or when a couple has one car but doesn't need two ALL the time.
Chicago actually has 2 kinds - ZipCar and I-Go. Their pricing plans are similar but they target different markets. ZipCar has mostly "trendy" cars - MiniCoopers, and sporty things. Their specials are mostly daytime hours and most of their cars are closer to downtown. I-Go has more of a Green business model - all of their cars are either hybrids or low-emission and their specials tend to be overnight hours. That's the one that I belong to - mostly because there are 2 cars less than 2 blocks from me and 2 more 3 blocks the other way so I can almost always get one when I want to. The Green aspect just makes me feel better about it! I also volunteer to promote them at street festivals and other events, and I earn 1-1 driving credit for that - work 1 hour get a free hour of driving time.
You can reserve by phone or online (which I usually do) - depending on your membership plan there are different options for hourly rates and/or mileage. I committed to paying $15 per month and I get 3 hours to use with up to 120 miles per day. Additional hours range from $8-$9. I use the car 3-5 hours per month for in-town errands so this is perfect for me - today I used 3 hours and drove 15 miles. And ALL of these charges include all gas, car maintenance, and insurance.
When you get to the car, you open it with a smart card and then take the key out of the meter in the glovebox. Use the key to open and lock the car as you go, and then at the end of your reservation you bring the car back where you got it, put the key fob back in the meter, and lock the car from the outside with your card.
It's pretty nifty, but it doesn't work for some people - if you need to commute to a job, if you take long trips, etc. But for buzzing around town when you take the bus to work every day - it's perfect!

Arlette & Cocoa - 20 Jan 2008 04:28 GMT Sounds very cool Wendy...what a great way of having a car! Sure beats paying for all the insurance, gas, maintenance. I sold my caravan which I miss very much, but we didn't need two cars. I rarely use the car, and I try to walk most places. Ray works from home, so one car works fine most of the time. But there are times when a car share would sure come in handy!

Daryl - 20 Jan 2008 17:00 GMT >Who are you betting **for**????? >Inquiring GIANTS FANS want to know! I am betting on the Stats and not the teams (i.e. most touchdowns, who scores first, number of field goals, etc.........)
I just know that real bad weather is going to affect some of my bets. Though, I did factor the weather in just a bit...............
But, I am hoping for a Green Bay win but, if New York wins then I will pull for them in the SuperBowl.
If New York plays New England (Boston) we are going to have a lot of fights. I might not even go to my own SuperBowl party this year. You guys get real nasty when you meet!!!

Arlette & Cocoa - 20 Jan 2008 17:21 GMT I think Ray is rooting for Green Bay, and if not them, then New England. I've gotten a bit more interested in football this year, but not quite enough to have a team. I think it's cool that NE has gone undefeated. Maybe I'll root for them :)

Poor Nona, I'll put in some prayers of weather mercy for you. You'd be surprised though, -25C up in the drier cold feels less cold than -5C in the damp of the south east.
I'm sure it will be warmer when you come though. It usually doesn't stay this way for too long.
