Well, we have a third bunny in a large dog crate on the dining room
table!

I got an email yesterday from a rescue group in ABQ (about 2 hours
away). A woman that is an known animal rights person in her
neighborhood was leaving for work and nearly backed over this bunny
that she thinks someone dumped there because of her animal connection.
She couldn't keep the bun and put out a desperate plea for someone to
take the bunny. I didn't reply in the hope that she'd get some offers,
but around 4 pm, it looked like no one was going to do anything. The
local HRS (which is loosely organized) couldn't take her and the ABQ
shelter system is a real disaster. I called my husband and begged and
pleaded. He was very skeptical, but he agreed and we drove down to
pick up the bun.

She is so adorable - she has velvety soft fur, kind of a cinnamon
color, and very long ears. She's about twice the size of Inky and Jake
- maybe about 10 lbs? I will take some pictures of her.

The plan is to foster her for the time being, but we'd like to keep
her if she gets along with our buns. I don't know how many trios work
out. We've got her in an extra-large dog crate up on the dining room
table. Inky has been obsessed with getting up there and sniffing at
her. Inky has boxed a little bit at her, but when I talk while they
are interacting, she calms down. There is minimal aggression and
Crumpet (the new girl, for now) is as laid back and non-threatening as
can be). Jake (who is the dominant in the pair) looked at Crumpet and
then hopped away. So far, all seems pretty good.

Wish us luck! This big bun girl is very sweet and seems like she is
just waiting patiently for her forever home. I reminded Inky and Jake
that's how they were too.

I'm tired after all the driving last night. Taking the day off today
to watch the buns (too distracting to try and work anyway!).

Oh how cool for her that you gave in. I know it was a hardship on you to
get there and back, but she is so fortunate. She sounds like a New Zealand
Red maybe. Congratulations to Crumpet and welcome to apr. Carla Liza and
Jodie.

Hi,
I took some pictures of the bun girl:
http://bluedutch.com/crumpet.html

She's so laid back, hence the reason why she's in a similar position
in all the photos.

Her ears are massive, and she has sort of a cottontail. I thought she
might be a Flemish giant, but I'm not sure at all. Still don't even
know if she's a she, but she has the dewlap which is a female thing
for the most part, right?  We're going to the vet on Thursday for a
definite answer!

Congrats on your new addition Marie.  That beauty is a Rex.  Hershey
is a mini-rex.  I recognize that fur anywhere.  And her facial
features are Rexy.  Hershey is the same size as Boo Boo and his ears
are definately bigger than Boo Boo's.  Lucky girl, I'm glad you got
her.

Defenitely a Rex! Lovely bun! They are so mellow and friendly, but in time,
when she really gets to trust you (and lost a little weight), she will get
ever so playfull. AlmaMater (who was 2,5 when I got her) is finally getting
the hang of binkying (over 4 years now). It cracks me up to see her
surprised face when she lands facing the other way!

Enjoy

PS
Ask the vet to check out her hocks. Rexes are a little prone to sore hocks,
due to their different fur. Make sure nails are trimmed short (so the heels
won't tilt backwards), soft bedding and appropriate weight, and any problems
are often prevented or sorted.

Hi,
She really is a beautiful girl, and it's nice to know what "breed" she
is. We make up little songs about our buns which have little details
in them like that. I had to set up an official small business which I
named in honor of Jake: Blue Dutch Consulting.

Crumpet is happy to have a stable home. She's done lots of dead-bunny
flops and loves it when I cuddle her. She's doing a lot of spraying
whenever Inky comes by. I sort of remember that behavior from Inky and
Jake when they first came to us, but it will be good when it stops. I
forgot I do not like cleaning up bunny pee.

If she gets a clean bill of health tomorrow, would it be safe to try a
bonding session prior to her being spayed? She is very docile and
timid with the other buns (they are both altered). They are just dying
to meet her. I think it might help to diffuse some of their nuttiness
right now if they could be properly introduced.

FAN-TASTIC bunny :)
I am so glad I got my usenet up and running again so I got to see her.

Really warms my heart to see someone caring this much.
I only have to travel about an hour to see Tussi (the lionhead bunny) and
Miko (Norwegian forrest cat) but I am pondering if there is room in my flat.
Bunnys should really have a garden though.

I've had buns in apartment complexes with no gardens or yards for
several years now, so I wouldn't let the lack of a garden stop you
from letting a bun into your life. I think they key is giving them
lots to do to stave of boredom and a good diet of fresh greens.

Are you in the UK (my brit husband uses the term "flat" a lot too)? My
observation from trips to the UK, especially to the Tesco's was that
produce (green veg especially) was so much fresher and higher quality
than what we get here in the US (unless you go to the farmer's market
or an expensive store, e.g. Whole Foods).

I live in Norway so the greens is not an issue really, but I just see how
happy Tussi (my sisters bun) is as she has a house in the garden for
summers.

There are plenty of park-areas around my flat and I have met a couple of
bunns there (with owners ofcource).

Here's a aereal view of the surroundings with a pin marking my flat :)
Plenty of grass and such around but no enclosed garden.  I have seen bunnys
on a leash before though.

You're making a habbit of picking up strays :-)

There's a Russian saying which I'm not sure how to translate, but I
think it's something like "Good fortune comes from misfortune". It
might in this case anyway.
