Arlette & Cocoa - 27 Jun 2008 07:04 GMT Hi Everybody,
It has taken me this long to reply to all the emails that I received for Cocoa's passing. I wanted to do that before I posted the memorial here.
I can't believe it's almost been a month since my dear Cocoa passed away. It seems like just yesterday he was here, and in some way it feels like years since I've seen him. I find I miss him more as days pass: his little face, the warm kisses on my nose, his sweet smell...how much he loved me. It's kind of weird really. I was telling Nona in an email that maybe I'm so used to missing people: my family or close friends who move away, that I really don't think of Cocoa as passed away. It's almost like Cocoa is just far away and I'm missing him like when we would go on vacation. I just feel like my heart is only on hold. I guess that in fact is true. I do believe I'll see my boy again. I just hope it might not be too long away.
I wanted to share with you Cocoa's Memorial: a collection of pictures of beautiful cards and flowers we received, his obituary from our local paper, and his grave site photos. Look at the full size shots of his grave to get the best view. Here's the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cocoa3c/ The album is Cocoa's Memorial. I even had a call from someone here in town who saw Cocoa's obituary, they have bunnies and wanted to give their condolences. That was sweet.
I also wanted to thank you all so very much for your kinds words and care for my boy during his life and after: that's ten years! A long in cyber years :) and I hope to carry on our friendships for as long as possible. It's odd when someone passes away. You think you were strong in that moment, but when you look back, you realize that you must have had help from God and that you really did get strength from the support of your friends. Funny having so many friends I've never even met.
An unusual thing happened to me a couple of days before Cocoa passed that I think is significant. On my way home from my house cleaning job, I stopped to pet a basset hound in his front yard (I pretty much pet every dog I meet...LOL). The owner was outside and suddenly the dog started barking like crazy and running to play with me...charging up the stairs and back down like I was his long lost owner. For a basset, that's quite an effort. The lady said she'd never seen him act that way before...ok, so I went on my way wondering. Then a few streets along, this young black lab tears out of his back door and runs right to me like he's known me all his life. I grabbed his collar and took him back to his house. The woman there wondered where he had gone when he charged out the back door. Again, I thought this was unusual, but I started to think that something was attracting these animals and I that perhaps it was God or his angel drawing close to me, because Cocoa was going to pass soon. Two days later, Cocoa did go. Often animals have been with me at moments when I've felt some special leading by the Lord. You can take that how you will, but it seemed special to me :)
Now that I'm bunless - though I don't feel bunless with everyone else's buns around me, I want to keep on helping people with their bunny care, especially on my disabled rabbit group. There are lots of disabled rabbits out there! Every week, people find that group with a bunny who's been hurt or ill and lost the use of their back legs. So often vets just tell them to put them down unnecessarily.
Cocoa's story is actually in a book that's just been released called "When Your Rabbit Needs Special Care: Traditional and Alternative Healing Methods". It was written my a gal on my dr group named Lucile Moore. I can't really remember what I sent to Lucile about Cocoa...it was a while back LOL, but I'm looking forward to seeing the book.
I am really looking forward to travelling some this summer. Next month, I'm going to Calgary for a few days to a "Space 1999" convention...weird huh - anyone here remember that show from the late '70's?? LOL I'm a fan of that show and it's something kind of crazy that I've never done before: going somewhere I've not been, on my own, to meet total strangers, and share a room with a total stranger. After three years of being house bound, I need an adventure.
My family is excited that I'm coming home in August...they'll be aghast at how many wrinkles and grey hairs I have! :D
In the autumn, Ray and I want to go down to New York at the invite of Nona to visit her and see the city! I really hope that happens. I want to meet the Cleland bun Clan, and Ira too of course :) Perhaps I'll meet up with a few of you there at the same time. A mini bunfest luncheon or something. I can just see Ray's face now...the invasion of the bunny people!!! AHHHHHHHHHH! LOL
I guess this has gotten somewhat long...well, stuff that I've been saving up for a month. This weekend, I'm cleaning up all the hay and vacuuming bunny poo from some corners.
Thanks again all. I love you and I know Cocoa does too.

Even though i am afraid of the "big city".. i would love to meet you there. and spend time with you and Nona, and meet her buns!!! and it would have to know wayyyy in advance.. because i work every weekend. Nona has been to my house and met muffy. (talk about inviting myself, eh?)..LOLOLOL
I cant wait to read about Cocoa in a book!!! And when you have time.. please remember about the Tiles.. you know what i mean....
I hope you dont mind all of the pictures i send you of Domino.. will you be his godmother/?? He is such a joy.. i found that after Bazy left me. i had thought of not getting another bun., but I learned right away.. i cant live without a bunny in my life... and when i saw a picture of Dom, I JUST KNEW,, he was for me..
Love to you my friend!!

Nona - 28 Jun 2008 08:48 GMT Arlette,
That is a very sweet and touching memorial to Cocoa.
He is so much with us it is hard to believe he has moved on to another world.
I hope you and Ray can come visit in the autumn. I will tell Hubble, Orpheus, Mr. Smoky Stewart, and Eurydice that you are coming. That way you can't back out or you will disappoint them!
I somehow think the dogs' reaction to you had meaning as well. Maybe you were emitting a super-powerful love and compassion for animals, which I know you do have.
I hope you have a great time with your family and at the convention, and I am certain that you will!
Nona
Arlette & Cocoa - 28 Jun 2008 22:46 GMT Thanks Nona! I hope we can come see you as well. I feel like I'm packing three years of travel into a few months...LOL Have to get it out of my system. I would so love to see your bunnies! I hope they like me.

Brandy - 28 Jun 2008 22:01 GMT Ooooh Arlette; I couldn't even respond til now, i use to say a birthday a month for auntie Deb's little Cocoa, and now it's a month since his passing; his memorial and pictures were beautiful. since the day we joined apr Cocoa was the apr icon, and still will be. we will all miss him greatly, as he left impressions of his paw prints on our hearts forever. his precious whisker will always be cherised and i feel so blessed that Christmas that i spoke to him on the phone and he was sniffing the phone, crazy auntie Deb. you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday; oh and i completely understand that you could not take calls last going off; but you know i am always here for you. hugs auntie Deb for always :(
Arlette & Cocoa - 28 Jun 2008 22:50 GMT Aww Deb, How are you feeling dear? How did the last operations go?? I hope things are getting better for you physically.
I should put a picture of you bunny blanket in the memorial. I actually did take a photo of Cocoa after he had passed, laying on the blankie, but I didn't think people could take seeing it. I don't look at it myself, but I just know I have it if I want to look at it.

RosL - 29 Jun 2008 13:24 GMT > Hi Everybody, > [quoted text clipped - 90 lines] > For Cocoa's body sling vids Click here > <http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=cocoa3c> It's a wonderful memorial, Arlette. It shows how much both Cocoa and you are valued by the people you know in person and those online.
We miss him too, the things you would tell us about him and the way you wrote - your love for him shone through.

Diva - 30 Jun 2008 03:33 GMT Every night this last month, when I do my prayers with the kids around [I do my prayers with Noodles meditating on me], we do a blessing for the buns ATB and we have been especially remembering the venerable Cocoa as well as our Chopper and Alice Cooper. With Jump's recent birthday we've been putting in a blessing for Merlin as well. It's hard to fit in every bun, of course, but we have our nightly remembrance, in addition to blessing all the buns at APR and Bunspace, the buns looking for homes and the hoomins who love them.
Who knew bunnies could lead us to our spiritual centers?
>Hi Everybody, > [quoted text clipped - 82 lines] > >Thanks again all. I love you and I know Cocoa does too. Rhonda - 30 Jun 2008 05:09 GMT Arlette, that was so nice. You have taken good care of your boy even after his passing. I'll bet he LOVES that lobelia nearby!
I'm glad you are planning some trips. You deserve it. Ray got to travel and you never complained about staying with Cocoa. Now it's your turn to kick up your heels a little bit.
Take care,
Rhonda

That is a very beautiful memorial you have of Cocoa.
I have taken a look at it a few times now and you sure have some stuff that goes back a ways.

Daryl_Junior - 05 Jul 2008 04:09 GMT Hey Arlette,
Junior is fine, for the most part. He is going through a major *blow coat* though. It has been a few weeks and the fur keeps coming out. He has never had a shed like this before in his 8 years.
I have been pulling and grooming fur out of him every day. Even his little nose is shedding.
He has pulled off his feed a few times but, I have been hitting him up on the critical care so as to avoid the gas episodes and the stasis.
He is getting plenty of water and except for getting pissy with me when I pluck him, he is very active and playful.
He is not too fond of the fireworks tonight that are blasting around the house.

Arlette & Cocoa - 07 Jul 2008 06:26 GMT I'm glad Junior is doing so well. Cocoa never liked me plucking him either. LOL He would get some horrible sheds when he got older. They seemed to never end! Those fireworks can be very loud! We went to the 4th celebrations down in Minnesota. At our Canadian fireworks, there were some ducks who were swimming frantically trying to get away from the noise.

> > [quoted text clipped - 36 lines] > > Daryl_Junior - 05 Jul 2008 04:17 GMT Hey Marylee,
Will try and find those Domino pictures tonight. Have not seen any pics of him yet. Things have settled down around the household for now and hopefully, it will remain that way for a good while. Sent you an e-mail out a few weeks ago but, I think you deleted it.
I still find a stray poop now and again and actually did find a clipped nail the other day that was unmistakenly Patches. Why the vacuum missed it(?), I don't know but, there it was.
Here's one for Cocoa! (gulp gulp
