All last week I told rufus rich was coming to camp  - all week i could
tell he fought to stay alive.  Rich stayed until yesterday.  Rufus
rallied a bit.  sat in the bottom half of a carrier outside.  tried to
crawl out a few times.  we sat by the campfire, he saw the other
kids.

Rich left yesterday.......

Tonight Rufus and I watched TV some together.  he was in the carrier
half, and he didn't look good - i laid with him and tried to feed
him.  he was open mouth breathing.  so i called my mom - took me a few
times to get the IV Cath in him because he was dehydrated.  he
couldn't lift his head or pull away, he didn't fight me at all.

when i started to inject, his distress while breathing settled, and he
went so peacefully.

i'm so sad.

he waited for Rich to come last week. had a great week with rich here,
and finally just let go.

He weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces.
I'm so tired

Oh, Ronie.

God bless you and the spirit of that beautiful boy rabbit.

I have faith that you are right, Rufus is with God, in a beautiful,
happy, peaceful place. (Of course, if there are bunnies there, I think
there is bound to be some mischief, don't you?)

I was just singing, as I did the dishes, "He's got the whole world
In His Hands, He's got every bunny,

"In His Hands, He's got you and me, sister.
"He's got the whole world in His hands."

I believe my beautiful Pinky and my noble Zane and your gorgeous Rufus
are in a joyous place, freed of the weaknesses of their bodies.

They are happy, whole, and healed, and God willing, we'll be with them
again some day.

Take good care of yourself, sweet Ronie.

I'm so sorry Ronie. You did such a wonderful job for him and gave him the
longest possible amount of life. I'm sure he is so happy and free now in
heaven. Take care and rest dear friend.

ooh Ronie;
my heart aches for  you Joe and I are very sorry; The pain of losing a bun
hurts so bad;at least Rufus went in peace in the familiarity of his own
home. you saved him from suffering what a gift, you truly are an amazing
bunmom and Rufus knew that. I think our Precious is waiting for him at the
rainbow bridge campsite; last i heard they were having a marshmallow roast
tonight. Ronie please take care of yourself, I know no one can say or do
anything to mend that hole in your heart right now; but always know we are
here for you.
sending hugs Deb,Joe (Zoe,Tabitha,Tiffany,Bugsy,Lady Honey bunny) (and of
course our sweetheart, (LADY PRECIOUS -from the Brige-June 30th 2008.

Dear Ronie, it must have taken everything in you to be there for Rufus right
untill the end. You were able to help him cross over. I hope you will now
take the time and space to help yourself heal. Be sad, be exhausted, but
also be proud of yourself, especially in these very hard times.
love

I'm so sad for you, but so happy that he hung on long enough to enjoy
Rich's visit.  You did miracles with him, but sometimes miracles aren't
enough.  I'm glad to have had a chance to read the stories and see the
pictures of such a clever and tenacious soul.

Roni,
Remember I too met Rufus many years ago... and he was a bunny people
fell in love with instantly... .. What a beautiful life you gave him.
He WAS special  just like my Muffy was.to me.  Miss Bazy May will
greet Rufus at the bridge and they will talk about you giving her a
hare cut and how Rufus ran around like a little maniac in my living
room with his ear in his mouth after that long trek up north with dogs
in your car.  I will never forget that.

Take care of yourself, I know how you feel deeply.

I"m so empty - i haven't cleaned anything up yet.  The blanket where i
euth him is still on the floor.  he was not aware at all when i did
it.  it was very sad.  but he had a good last few days.

His condo is still as it was.  i didn't sleep much.  i'm not crying -
just lost and don't know what to do with myself.

I took ling and milton outside this evening.  it's a nice cool
evening.  they kept coming up to me  - they know i''m sad.  Usually
they dance in the yard and eat grass - they were quiet tonite too.

I had off today - which i think was a good thing.  i wanted to be
alone.  Tomorrow i go back to work - which will be a good distraction.

I miss that little boy so much.  but he hasn't been the healthy bun i
knew in a long long time.  Thanks for all of you lovely posts.  I'm
doing ok.

We are so very sorry that Rufus' time had come to cross The Bridge.  I'm
glad that we were able to be part of his last camp fire which he really did
seem to enjoy.  Our memorial candle will be lighted in his remembrance.

Rest in Peace Rufus.

Dear Ronie ... We all knew this day was coming, but knowing it and being
prepared still doesn't help much when your heart is breaking.

I'm glad Rufus had a good week and was able to enjoy his camping buddies one
last time. I'm sure (as Marylee said) that he is at the Marshmellow roast at
the rainbow bridge campground tonight and he has lots of new camping
buddies.

I know you have to be tired ... it's been a struggle for you. Rufus was
tired too and I know he's glad to be rid of that old worn out earthly body.
He's sporting a new and improved eternal body and I'll bet he still has his
wonderful ears :-)

Big Hugs to you my friend (((((Ronie)))))

I'm so sorry Rufus had to make his journey to The Bridge, Ronie.  They
never are with us long enough.  I'm sure he's blowing kisses of love
and thanks for all the wonderful care you have given him.  Take the
time to grieve and give yourself a much needed rest, you deserve it.
Keeping you in our prayers.

I'm preparing to move and last night I uncovered all the pics I saved
from last year's card exchange.  Spent some time looking at everybun
(Pepper had nibbled a bit on Eurydice)  and then came to Rufus' pic. Now
that I know what to look for I can see the bouncy cleverbun inside that
shell, but I also see a bun that was getting tired.

I'm sorry he had to go, but you helped him stay around until he was good
and ready to go, and that you were able to give him peace when it was time.

Cuddle Ling and Milton, and go ahead and cry.  We're here.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.  I do miss that boy.  I have
no one to medicate now - no special needs bun.  I'm going thru
withdrawal.  perhaps once all of rufus' bills are paid off, i'll get
another special needs bun, or an elder bun.  There are alot at my
shelter that are 5 or older in age.

Ling and milton don't know how to take the extra attention.  they are
so dependent on each other.

I do have one naughty, UN-NEUTERED STINKY male gray lop (holland)
foster.  he was left at a doorstep in a box at a local vet - sighhh.
he's cute.  his name is Jimmy (so far).  But he's not my Rufus man.

I miss you Rufus

I'm so sorry to read this news, Ronie. ;-( In only saw your post just now.
Rufus was a very special bunny and had such character and he will be sorely
missed by all of us. His body is whole and healthy once again on the other
side of the Bridge playing with his APR friends. My thoughts go out to you.
