Well this really isnt his first visit.. After all: his foster mother
had him neutered ,but its the first with me.
I didnt want to stress him. so i allowed him to go into the carrier by
himself.  aided with a teeny piece of banana.  He was fine in the
car.  Its when they took him out of the carrier that he freaked out.
The assistant placed him on the scale .. he didnt like that.. We ended
up weighing the carrier, then putting him inside the carrier and
weighing that.  He got his nails clipped. and a good examination.. He
is in good health.  He weighs 3.3kg... the vet said he should weigh a
little less.. ?? i dont know how much he is suppose to weigh.  When we
got home he got his morning salad..
and fell asleep under my bed after.
what a sweetie!!!

thanks,

marylee

Haha. By the way, my vet says to only watch for sudden changes in weight and
that a stable weight is key.

Marylee, that's great. But about the carrier part, do you have one
that has the opening in the top with a latch. That is the only way I
can get my two out. Carla Liza and Jodie.

yes Carla, I do have the kind of carrier that opens both ways but that
wasn't the problem. When they went to put him on the scale he freaked
out.  It scared him because it was moving a bit and it was cold and
slippery under his feet.  I should have realized that!!!!   That's why
we decided to weigh him in his carrier so as not to stress him any
further.  He did very well with the exam although, he wasn't happy
about it, LOL.  Arlette, I limit his pellets to one cup a day.  The
oxbow pellets. No treats.  He gets a salad in the morning and at night
and thank goodness he loves his hay.  As far as excercise, he races
around the house; the bunny 500.  He is very active. I had completely
forgotten how much energy a young bun has!!!  He is also a big flirt!
When I get home from work in the morning and take the gate down from
our bedroom, he binkys and shakes his ears at me.  What a cutie!!!

Thanks everyone!!

Do not worry about the belly!  A healthy rabbit has a round belly.
That's the first thing my vet always checks.  When my boys get a check
up Dr. Saver says, "Good!  He has a full belly".  Their bacterial
digestive system requires that their bellies are always full.  (I bet
you're jealous LOL)

ml, one cup of pellets a day is way too much!!!!
a serving si 1/4 per five pounds.. no more. the rest needs to be hay
etc... that could be the problem.
Professor - 29 Aug 2008 11:13 GMT
Get him more greens instead.

ohhh???? Ok thank you very much... tell me though.. what kind of
greens do you guys give to your buns..out of curiosity.. i give
parsley and romaine lettuce.. i tried broccoli but he doesnt like
that.. one carrot a day cut in half.. half in morning half in evening.
A small piece of banana  also  cut in half.. as i do with the
carrot.and a couple of very small bite size pieces of apple... i have
a many types of hay...
If his pellet bowl is empty he will pick it up and throw it around and
make noise..., but i will give him more greens now.

thank you guys very much.

yes, also  try to cut down the sweet fruit if rabbit is abit over weighted,
banana and apple etc.
DooBDoo liked to throw around the pellet bowl to ask for mroe when she was
baby.
If my bf spoiled her for 1 time, she would sit and wait for more pellets for
hours.....
not eating any hay and wait...smart DoobDoo...

now she knows, 2 spoons only, no more...then she now will go to find the hay
and some vegies..
carrot, vet told me two to four tiny fingers size each week is enough,
(depends on size of the bun from 2-5 pounds, for example only)
too much carotene is not so good to a rabbit.

How many pellets is Domino getting now? They might need rationing. Is he
getting any treats? Is he exercising? Does he eat a lot of hay?

Poor Domino.  Hershey is deathly afraid of going to the vets and that
dreaded table.  Marylee as far as pellets go, I feed everybun but
Louise 1/4 cup a day and Louise gets 1/2 since she is about 12-14
pounds.  Hershey slimmed down nicely when I started to ration his
pellets.  He was a fat rexy bun and now looks like he went on Jenny
Craig.
