Oh God Sue! Really??
I'd love him! My boyfriend is laughing at me because I am now saying to him
"How far are we away from Portsmouth??!!" We are in Bedfordshire .....
(According to AA Route Planner, it is 2 hours drive - 100 miles! Would you
consdier that too far for ratty to travel?) Even if we miss out on the
current one you have, maybe you would consider us on future litters??

Hi Tania,
I've replied to your mail, but for the benefit of everyone else, 100 miles
isn't too far at all. Rats travel very well.... in fact the little fellow's
great-great-great-grandfather was born in Holland, and I brought him back on
very long trip home by train, Sea-Cat and train again when 6 weeks old (in
the middle of a heatwave, too).... while his great-great-great-grandmother
came from Belgium and arrived here driven by car, ferry, and then train from
Dover to London.
In hot weather air conditoning in the car is ideal, or you can put a frozen
bottle of water or some small frozen ceramic tiles in the carrier. With
some cucumber in the travelling cage for moisture (water bottles leak from
the vibration of the car), and a few stops to check on the way home if you
are worried, all should be fine. If it's very hot when you come I can have a
a frozen bottle and a tile for his carrier, ready for you, for the journey
back.
If asked, 9 out of 10 rats prefer to stop at service stations with a KFC
outlet, 'cos then they get the bones to gnaw the rest of the way home!! :D

When I pick up my breeder rats, I always travel 4 to 5 hours, each way.
There doesn't seem to be any effect on the babes. I make sure they have
water and apple bits for extra moisture. They usually just sleep all the
way.
