I was wondering if I could get some opinions on a small sore that our
2-1/2-year-old guy has on his side.
See Cocoa's "Owie" album:

He's had a bit of a slightly smaller than pea-sized bump there for
over a month, which we thought was just probably a little bite deal or
something he got during a skirmish, but it's just recently started to
get more "wart-like" and scabby. It hasn't increased in size really,
but the look of it worries me because it reminds me of a tumor one of
my hamsters from when I was a little girl had (but *that* brownish,
scabby "sore" was much larger and grew really quickly).
We just started putting a little Neosporin ointment on it, but it
really hasn't been long enough for us to notice any difference yet.
(BTW, in the third photo, #-0609, his fur looks a little icky around
it from the Neosporin, not from any drainage or anything, which we
haven't seen any of at all.)
I'm thinking I may have to take him to the vet to get it cauterized
off or something, but before I consider doing that, any opinions
and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Sorry I'm not going to be much help here as I've never experienced tumours
on my ratties. I have experienced abscesses, although it doesn't look like
an abscess to me - have you tried very gently squeezing the lump? Abscesses
usually yield horrible thick smelly pus when you do this, although sometimes
you have to scrape the scab off the lump for it to ooze. I'm not going to
recommend that though as it may not be an abscess. Maybe it's a cyst?
Sorry I'm not much help, Mariette. If it were me I'd let the vet check it
out.

Thanks, Tracey. It's not "squeezable," really, more the consistency
of a wart or something more solid like that.
It looks like we will be taking him to the vet. I was just hoping
that somebody here may have seen something similar before and would
have some ideas what it might be. Luckily, whatever it is, it's not
really changed in size that much, so not likely to be a tumor or
anything too dangerous, hopefully.
Thanks again for giving some feedback, Tracey. :)

Happy to do so, I'm just sorry I couldn't offer more helpful advice!
Fingers crossed it's something benign. Let us know what the vet says.

Hi Tracey,
Two of my boys have had this. With Cairo it was a Sebaceous Cyst which
eventually burst. I took him to the Vets to have it thoroughly cleaned out
and a couple of stitches put in. He healed up 100%..:) Africa has one now
and had had it for a couple of months, it doesn't bother him but if it does
I will get it seen to and perhaps purposely opened and cleaned out. With
Cairo it was annoying him as he was always trying to itch it !! Even so for
peace of mind a good Vets opinion never goes astray. All the best.
Regards Kate

It may be a cyst or an abscess... (my guess) It doesn't look like a typical
tumor to me.
Best to see a vet though. Keep us updated...
Good luck!!
