Need Fast Advice on Foot Problem

Maggie is going to have her spay surgery tomorrow morning.  I am leaving
here at 5:30am to get her down to the vet for 9:00am. She will have the
operation and be released at 5pm, then we will come home.

Tonight I looked in on Jacques (who is only 11 weeks old) and his right hind
foot and leg are swollen up, and he won't bear any weight on them.  He drags
his little foot behind.  It does not look at all like bumblefoot - the
bottom of his heel/foot are fine.  It doesn't seem overly painful to him,
he's not squeaking if I touch it, and he's eating fine.

The question is, should I take Jacques down to the vet with me, even though
we will be gone from the house for 16 hours?  Does the stress of being in
the car for 16 hours outweigh the benefit of having the vet look at Jacques
foot?  Jacques was near death with a respiratory infection only 3 weeks ago,
so I just don't want him to get a relapse.

Help!

Oh I curse the day I ever moved so far away from civilization!!!

Also, Jacques swollen (hind) leg seems much warmer than his other hind leg.
Infection?  Could this have been related to his respiratory problems?

I would take him with you and get it checked out.  Bring along his cagemate
to minimize the stress.  I find that my rats don't mind the car ride at all
as long as they are in a familiar carrying kennel (I use the same one that I
use when I clean out the cage to put them in), they don't know the
difference.

It could be a sprain or an infection. Usually, when I noticed one of my guys
have a swollen/sore leg, I put them in a one level cage with a buddy and
keep him there for 4 to 5 days. If the leg starts to go back to normal by
the third day, then it was just a sprain.
I've driven far to get my boys so I've had good experience with rats and car
rides. I wouldn't worry about the ride.

how swollen?

i'd take him with you. take his roommate and him, put some juicy fruit
in their cage to keep them hydrated and their waterbottle for while
you're stopped and waiting. my rats have never seemed to mind the car
at all.

i hope everything goes well!
