Hello everyone,
Our computer has been on the blink and we have only just got it working
again. I put a posting on a short while ago because my lovely old rat,
Disney's, lifetime companion Matilda had died and left her on her own. I
have 5 female rats in another cage who are 11 months old and I was afraid to
introduce them just incase all 5 took a dislike to Disney who's 2 years and
3 months old.. I decided to let her just live out the rest of her days on
her own as we have 2 huge cages and not a great deal of space. BUT my son
and his girlfriend came home one day with 2 baby female rats ( now named
Snowflake and Blossom) because they felt sorry for Disney. Disney just
accepted them straight away, infact they have breathed life into her again.
The babies adore her and snuggle up to her as if she was their real Mother.
It's a pleasure to watch them. I'm so glad my son sprang that surprise on
me.
Regards,
Rosalind

That's really sweet.

Sweet story, Rosalind.

We had a rat, Bronwyn, who became a great-aunt-of-sorts at almost three
years old.  One of her cage mates gave birth to a handful of little
firecrackers, and mom seemed emotionally ill-equipped to handle them.  So
Bronwyn took charge and did everything but feed them.  She lived to be three
and a half years old, and I swear the last six months were a gift she got
from the children.

Great story Mark. Bronwyn certainly lived to a ripe old age. I just hope
Disney is with us for a while longer as her 2 new companions adore
her,Regards,

How lovely!  It's exactly what happened when one of my old guys was left on
his own - I introduced two five week olds to him and they gave him a new
lease of life, he started playing again like a youngster, it was so good to
see.  He loved his new friends and they seemed to so look up to him like a
father-figure.  When they grew into adults they could have easily
over-powered the weak old dear, but they showed him nothing but respect
until the day he died.
